Help Making calls from another state

My fiance is currently in New York for a funeral. We live in California. She can't make any calls out there but she has data and can text. Every time she tries to call it gives her the welcome to verizon message. She called Metro from her dads' phone and they said that she needed to turn on data roaming before she left and then when she arrived she would have been able to make calls. That the phone still thinks she is in California. That is the dummest thing I have ever heard. They tried to reset the phone and nothing works. Anyone else had this issue before and were you able to fix it? Thanks for the help.

Well can i ask if you did a update to the device by hitting *228 and pressing 5 . Now if this doesn't work you need to go into settings and turn on this

She has data on and the data roaming on as well. She has no problems with data or sending text. She just can't make or receive phone calls. Metro told her it was because she didn't turn on data roaming before she left California. I think that is stupid. They have coverage in New York but according to them the phone still thinks it is in california. Stupid Metro.

That is kinda true cause you went against the time zone. U have to get a new sid or reset data cache etc . Have u taken the phone to a metro dealer in new york it is a lot almost on every corner also what does the service state say and is the device roaming . Try and make a call on Verizon
