okay. well, unfortunately i can't direct you to exactly where the png image is for the notification tray since i haven't rooted yet. the structure may be set up a little different than when i was on my Evo, but on my old device, system image files were located in either the framework-res.apk or the SystemUI.apk (res\drawable-hdpi). you don't have to actually take the apks apart, you just need something like 7zip to open the archive and replace the png with a transparent one.
you might wanna try xda because not a lot of people here are gonna know what i'm even referring to right now lol
