Help Malware - Rooter-G ?

Im running Avast virus scanner and its reporting that I have malware in z4root.1.3.0.apk caller "Android:Rooter-G [PUP]". I don't remember that app updating recently and I cant find it in the app drawer or in the application list (thru settings...) to see when it last updated. Maybe Avast is hiding it to prevent activity until I take action to delete or report false positive? I see it in Titanium backup as having last been backed up in September, but that was just before I installed Liberty ROM, I have not done any other real rooting activities since then.

Anyone know anything about this? Is there a separate area in this forum to discuss malware because I did not see anything.

How are you scanning with Avast? Is it the Windows version of Avast?

Antivirus programs often throw up warnings for any hack-type programs. Do you have anti-malware on your X (like Lookout)?

No, mobile version. I saw an article about it on CNET last month and thought I would give it a try - they had good things to say about it.

I have been running Avast for about a month and z4root has been there the entire time. This notice of malware only just came up yesterday. I did have a virus definitions update a few days ago and I think another is pending, maybe it is a false positive.

So you're thinking this is something like MS developed anti-virus that thinks that if the certificate is not from MS then its malware?

No, I'm saying it might be a normal app that gets detected as a hacking tool/app. I've seen a lot of windows apps flagged as malware when they're just tools, if you're a developer. If I wasn't a hacker or developer, then I would hope it would detect it.

z4root is used to root your phone = hacking tool.

It might be infected, but I'm guessing it's not.
