Managing Apps

Thin_Client

Newbie
I am looking for "how to" information for managing apps, like uninstalling an app if the uninstall option is not enabled for an app, or freezing, stopping or preventing apps from running without the use of app monitoring software that constantly runs in the background.

I'm also looking for basic "how to" information on how to transfer apps from a Nandroid backup to an existing ROM installation if that is possible.

The phone is a rooted Motorola Triumph with a custom ROM (bROM by b-randon14)

Thank you for your help.

Some apps - usually bloatware from your network - can only be removed after rooting the phone. Rooting may however, invalidate your warranty - never done it so I'm not 100% sure.

You can force an app to stop from Apps in Settings. I believe preventing things from running (i.e. disabling apps) would require some additional s/ware or rooting.

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that the phone is a rooted Motorola Triump with a custom ROM (bROM by b-randon14). (I updated my initial post to reflect this)

Thank you for your help.

Ah! I believe I have read (scanned) something of this "Titanium backup" that you speak of. Perhaps I should look into this as an option. I think there is a post somewhere in this forum regarding Titanium Backup.

Thank you for your advice. :?)

I wonder if there are also any "Teminal command" ways of doing this as well? I'm sure the Titanium way is easier to use though. I will often conduct implementations manually instead of using wizards. Although the easy-button way of doing things has its appeal for me as well.

Since I already flashed CWM for my recovery and made a Nandriod, I'm beginning to wonder if I'll be able to use Titanium with my current custom ROM installation since CWM is already installed. (It doesn't appear that I can do granular restore of apps using CWM if I am reading correctly) I'm looking to install another custom ROM some time soon just to try out another one. But isnt' it true that Titanium will not do a complete Nandroid backup only data and apps? Maybe I have to do a Titanium bakcup first then use CWM for subsequent backups and flashes. Then do it in reverse if I want to use Apps from the Titanium backup. (is that confusing or what?)

I might be getting off track here.

Sure you can.

Yes, TiB backs-up (and restores) apps and their associated data.

Maybe I have to do a Titanium bakcup first then use CWM for subsequent backups and flashes.

The reverse works better i.e. use CWM to make a nandroid image of the complete filesystem once the new ROM is installed and the set up completed, then use TiB to backup your installed apps and their data regularly. That way you can quickly revert to a 'known-good' ROM image and then restore the latest version of any apps to need.

Btw TiB allows extracting apps from nandroid backups, although this may be a feature exclusive to the paid-for 'Pro' version.

Thank you for the advice, Slug. This is good to know. I will certainly have to experiment with it. It appears that I had somewhat of a theoretically close concept in mind. (but did not articulate it very well). Depending on how much the Pro version of TiB cost, I'll give it some consideration.

On a side note: I'm guessing I'll have to obtain to a certain level of some kind on this forum to get my picture to show up or the thread has to start AFTER I've downloaded my picture.
