Manual Install

I will be getting a tablet soon with 2.0 installed on it. My question is, since this might be an off beat brand manufacture, how can I do manual updates? Similar to M$ Win and how that works when updating. I'm sure rooting might be involved.
How do I connect it to a computer running windows and view the contents? Is there an explorer style browser for viewing?

Being an "off-beat" brand, i would assume it is just running stock android. If that is the case, you will need to just install that stock android update. If it does need rooting, we would need to know what the actual device is to help you, I think.

I'll give more details when I get it. How could I tell if it has "stock" android?
And how easy would rooting the device be?
