Help Maps always in battery usage but not used

GalaxyS2

Well-Known Member
Hi, could anyone tell me why maps is always on my battery usage screen yet I'm not using them. I have gps & location turned off.

Today the phones been on 17 minutes and all I've done is check on this forum but maps have been 14% of battery usage?!?

I was having this all the time but it was fixed in the latest firmware upgrade that came out last weekend...see if you have build number ending xwke7, if not try and download it with Kies.
I am UK with sim free, unbranded so not sure if it will be available for you.

Yes I'm on the latest firmware and I am also a UK sim free user.

Not sure what to do, if I look in running apps it shows as running, when I force closure on it it just opens another one?!? I'm lost at what to do. I'm careful with battery usage as when I first got it due to heavy use it would only last 5 hours now I turn everything off I'm not using and still have 50% after 12 hours.

When i first set up my phone i selected to backup my data on server. This caused my email, maps, and some other services to be UNABLE to turn off. I eventually hard reset my phone (settings/privacy) and de-selected having my data sync with all the g-servers. what a pain...

There is a widget for running services I think, look in there, maps will always be running, I think I disabled it [rooted] on mine.

Maps is always running because it provides "NetworkLocationService" to work out your course location from phone networks and provide to a host of other apps and processes. It does not use any appreciable battery power on the stats. Not on my SGS2 anyway. This process should be left alone.

There is a separate problem with Navigon chewing up battery life which I posted elsewhere also.
