Root "maps" always taking up 80-90% battery usage

the last couple days every time i check my battery use through menu>settings>about phone>battery the google maps app is at around 80-95%. i do use maps pretty frequently but not that much. before maps was usually around 10%. my only troubleshooting so far is restarted the phone and ending the maps task through system panel. my battery life is horrible and has been since i've gotten the phone regardless of any rom/kernel/power saving steps i take and I haven't noticed it being any worse since this problem has been present.

i'm on fresh 3.5.0.1 and netarchy 4.1.9.1 cfs (more havs). i think this problem started right around when i started using this setup. maybe my battery life would actually be normal for a change without this issue? i'm hoping so.

thanks.

ps i would post screen shots but my shootme stopped working!

I had a similar problem. It happened shortly after i updated to maps v5. I'm not sure what version you're on, but i eventually had to delete maps and reinstall it. That solved it for me.

i'm on v5 also, i'll give that a try.

Happens to me randomly. Even if I haven't used the maps app yet. Even stranger is that although it says it's using like 90% of my battery, my battery doesn't seem to drain any faster than it normally would.

Ever since i re installed it, i haven't had a problem. But when it was acting up, it was killing my battery.

I uninstalled and reinstalled it and I still have this problem. I haven't used google maps since I've unplugged my phone and it says that it's 90% of my usage.

Anyone else encounter this problem and a re-install didn't fix it?

I have seen dramatic battery usage when GPS based applications are allowed to run in the background (Latitude ...etc). I recommend NOT to use latitude (slows phone and kills battery). Its best to make sure to back out of the apps with the back button and not using the home button which will let the app run. Also I turn the GPS off (WIDGET) when I'm not using it making sure no GPS is running in the background.

I noticed this today. Randomly lately, i saw it, but today i tried closing out of it a few times, and then just force closed it to see if it would go away.
I didnt notice it using my battery more than normal though.. but it was holding a long partial wake time too (almost as much as my off the charger time)

I think its because when you have a search or directions loaded, it just stays running so that you can go back to the app and see what it was without having to search again or get directions again etc. Still, it doesnt seem to actually be draining the battery.

ok, so how do you uninstall the MAPS that is part of the ROM? I tried to uninstall through application manager and it is greyed out. I have titanium backup, can I use that?

I'm having this issue as well. It seemed to start when I updated to the latest version of Google Maps. Is there a way to solve this without turning off GPS or uninstalling maps?? I think it's pretty rediculous that I have 20% left after 5 hours of NO use with syncing turned off. Google Maps is basically killing my battery life.

I haven't had a problem ever since i re installed maps. I deleted maps, installed an older version, then updated via market back to 5.
