Help Maps links opening in browser

eflowt

Lurker
Recently my Incredible 2 started opening Maps links, adresses, and requests for directions within the default browser instead of the Maps/Navigation apps.

I've tried uninstalling recent updates to Maps and VZ Navigator to no avail.

I've also gone into the "App Associations" settings menu and switched the settings for "Physical Address" and "Map Address" to Maps. That also does nothing.

Any idea what's going on and how to resolve it?

Try going into applications under settings and going to both browser and maps/ navigation and clearing all their defaults.

Tried that. No such luck. I don't even get the dialog that pops up asking me which program to use to open these links.

I did just download the most recent software update (6.01.605.05 710RD), starting to wonder if it was some kind of workaround for recent Apple lawsuit.

Is this happening with addresses and such in emails, on the web, in txt messages? All?

Just within the web browser, it's not automatically identifying addresses as links, also when I click on the thumbnail of a map that appears in search results it just opens within the browser.

I was looking through apps and I just noticed one called HTClinkifydispatcher, which I don't recall ever seeing before. A quick web search finds lots of discussion about it and how it's HTC's workaround to the Apple lawsuit.

Has anyone else heard anything about this?

I heard the same thing about that app.
Let us know if it works for you, but it sounds to me like something has gone wrong with your phone. Unfortunately, I would be leaning towards a factory reset to fix the problem :(

What?!? The update is modifying phones released before Crapple's lawsuit?!? I'm glad I'm rooted and running ICS. Crapple must be sliding down the tubes faster than anyone knows to get this desperate.

It's now auto-recognizing addresses some of the time (Probably 90% or so). Not on Google search though, and clicking a map still opens it within the browser. Very odd.

I may give the reset a try later this week on a day I'm not working.

Ok, well at least I now know it isn't just my phone. Has this started to happen to the rest of you after this last update? The one work around I have found is to use the Places App and do your search from there. The search from Places will open a place in the Maps and allow you to Navigate to it using the Nav App. I would like to know if this is what we can expect with any new HTC phone. I don't recall seeing the App Assocication settings before, but do recall HTC statements saying that is what their work around for Crapple's law suit was going to be...

According to this article Update the only fix was for images on social networks...

Well, we also got the ability to screen capture, so there is obviously other stuff in there not listed.

Yep, I agree... Well if I click "call" within the browser it opens up the dialed like it is suppose to. So I wonder if HTC has a bug in their update. I see the update also did not put the clock in the App Drawer either.

I'm having the same issue except on a droid razr. Raw addresses seem to work fine but searches linked with directions seem to only open in the browser. I noticed the links have a https instead of the normal http. I think this has something to do with it.

My 2 cents

could be, but I would be surprised. As a web developer the https just means the data is encrypted. But the browser knows how to handle both. Weather it's http or https the popup to open with Maps or Internet should not be effected.

Not sure if browser is sending ssl encrypted URL to the maps app or not. If I take the URL and use http it does invoke the maps app. Either links should be standard http or the browser has a problem sending ssl links to maps.
