Help Maps problem?

I'm not sure if this is a problem with my Maps program or if it is "normal". Hopefully someone can let me know.

This first picture is as close as I can zoom in on a location:



When I try to zoom in any closer, I get this:



This doesn't happen with Google Earth, that works fine, this just seems to be a Maps problem. I have un-installed and re-installed any updates to Maps, although I can't do the same for the program obviously.

This happens with ANY location. I tried some more metropolitan areas since I'm kind of in the sticks to see if that was the problem, it wasn't.

Has anybody run into this issue before, or is it "normal" behavior?

hmm for me, if it shows that, it means it's still loading.

Hmm, the only time I get the dreaded 'graph paper' is when I'm moving faster than Maps can keep up. Does it do the same thing on Wifi? If you zoom too quickly, it should display the blank graph until the map fills in.

I just tried zooming in as much as possible, and it shows everything fine. If I'm on the lowest setting and I pinch, it brings me closer but pops back out again to show the 'closest' view.

When you get to a certain level of zoom, that is what shows up. Google Maps is high-res - up to a certain point. When you reach that point, you get the magnifying glasses. It's different from Earth, which just zooms in regardless of resolution.

The Google Maps website used to do the same thing - now it just zooms down to street view at a certain point.

How far you can zoom in is a factor of the location. It used to be that you could zoom way in on a major metro area, but not as far on rural ones. The level of zoom on your screencap is just about right.

Yeah the little minus signs in the magnifying glass means you have to zoom out... you've zoomed in more than the program can handle.

Once I get close enough to show the "graph paper", I can sit there and it never fills in until I zoom back out. Funny thing is, I don't remember it doing this when I first got the phone. I played with it a lot, then didn't use it again until recently and then ran into this.

I live in a rural area but close to a major city. When I input a downtown address of a large metropolitan area, the same thing happens.

I'm in Phoenix, and that's about the same level of zoom I get. Building sizes vary, but your street widths are about the same as residential streets at full zoom in my area - may be one zoom level less.

If we really wanted to compare apples to apples, Musky could post a shot of a "neutral" map and give us the address, and we could compare - but that might be overkill .

Anyone get a system force close when they turn on wireless networks on in locations? I can't figure out what the problem is but when I turn it on and hit agree the system crashes. I can't use my maps application without this feature working.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Do you mean turn on "WiFi" or "mobile network"?

I just tried both and don't get a crash.

EDIT: I see what you mean, in settings. I have "wireless networks" enabled and don't get a crash.

It's in location 6th option down with the globe like icon for some reason when i turn it on and hit agree everything crashes maybe i got a bad incredible
