Help Maps running at night

Has anyone else had Google maps running at night of it's own accord?
Every morning I check my phone and it shows lots of little awake times through the night and also shows GPS and Maps has been having a bit of a party at my battery's expense ;)
Well about 4% of battery went on maps last night.

Not logged into Latitude and not using Maps... obviously as I'm asleep.
It's not a huge usage but I don't know how to stop it - if I force stop maps it just opens itself up again eventually even if I haven't used it.

Edit:
According to Spare parts it's run for 1min 17 seconds, as has Google services.
What is Google services and is it related?

Just a guess, but do you use a weather widget? If so, I would imagine it's this updating (and checking its location) that is activating your GPS.
I use SiMi clock, and the weather widget in there. If I force a refresh of the weather my GPS activates for a few seconds to get a fix.

I did wonder that but not currently using a weather widget, although I do have fancy widgets on the phone even though it's not being used it still shows as running as does maps.

I'll uninstall fancy widgets and see if that cures it.

Nope, I was lying - I was using Fancy widgets as a clock without weather but I guess it still runs the service in the background.
Might explain it, thanks.
