Market/Play will not work

Redroid

Lurker
So my phone recently updated from the Market to Play, or so I thought. But then both had disappeared. I tried downloading both the Market and Play as apks and installed them (not at the same time), but when I try to open them my phone just goes back to the app menu. Any advice?

I'm on a rooted (no custom rom) Optimus T.

Are you using a custom launcher, like ADW? You may have to reload the launcher to get it to work.

Or you may have to reboot the phone to get it to work. Any short cuts to the market will be invalid. At least mine were and I had to recreate them from the app tray.

Try this:

Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Google Play Store > Clear data.

Then try re-running Google Play.

So, I managed to get it working, by launching it from Titanium, actually. Now it shows up in the stock app drawer, but I can't get Launcher Pro to show it.

so I thought I upgraded to play, and in market settings it say 3.4.4 but it looks exactly the same as it did before, and still says market....I tried to overwrite the market with the new one, and that didn't work, I also tried to move it to system , apps, and changed permissions, and rebooted. Do I have it or not? can someone post a screeshot?

Id guess google is smart enough to keep the old app backwards compatable for a few years atleast.

Im not gonna go looking for an update unless it stops working.

why fix what isn't broke.

MY problem seems to be different.... I can see the app when I go to Manage Applications... the icon for the app doesn't appear in my app tray so can't move it to the launcher

Fixed it: long press on screen, select "add Shortcut" scroll down to "Play Store" and select.

I have a Huawei U8800 running gingerbread. The problem may have been caused because the Market cam pre-installed with the official ROM from Huawei

That is what mine did. I could add it to my home by removing the old Market icon and long press > add > shortcut > application...it was there and and it works just fine now.

You ninja edited! lol

It should say "Google Play" at the top instead of market.

I just went to settings -> manager apps -> market and cleared data. Then open the market and accept the new terms and it should update.

I did this a million times, it didn't work, it still says market at the top...

Google play, chrome browser... Maybe google will keep doing more to push OEMs to keep up. The single thing that upsets me about Android!

ICS released 5 months ago and still the "phone of the year" the GSII and the only way I can have the current OS is with a custom ROM.

Rant over...

Its more on Android then OEM, if ICS was what it was suppose to be, resellers wouldn't be downgrading tablets and such with stern warning if you insist on ICS don't complain when its buggy and slow. my tab wasn't down graded to 2.3.4 just for fun.
