Help Marshmallow nightmare - ringtone stops and can't enter recovery mode

My phone is a disaster ever since Marshmallow was installed. The ringtone stops working every day. So I turn off the phone, restart it, and the ringtone works until sometime at night when it stops. It still vibrates, but the ringtone won't play. Even when I select a ringtone in Settings, it won't play.

Someone suggested I wipe the partition cache. But I can't. It won't even go into Recovery mode. I get to the menu with Recovery mode, but when I select it by pressing the power button, it restarts in normal mode.

Someone please help me! This is driving me nuts. Can I reinstall Lollipop?

Thanks.

I do not have your phone. I have a Turbo 2 with Marshmallow. My educated guess on part 1 ...

The sound control was "improved" in Marshmallow. I suggest you check on ...
Settings / Sound and notification / Do Not Disturb
... my guess is that you have a rule defined there that is making the unwanted adjustments to your sound.

Thanks, Thom. I was not aware of Do Not Disturb -- but now that I check, I see that it is turned off. So that's probably not the problem. This is very baffling.

Are all the Automatic rules off? If yes ... run in Safe Mode tonight. If the problem stops it is caused by an app that you added. An incompatibility of an older app to Marshmallow perhaps? I had one in 300 added apps and it was sound related.

I haven't added any apps in months. If I have to just guess when removing them one by one or in small groups, this could take forever...and still not be the problem. Oy. I suppose I'll start with the apps I don't really care about.

Thanks for your help, though, Thom. Much appreciated.

That is an annoyance. There is no easy solution.

If it is a problem in normal mode and not a problem in Safe Mode then it is a challenge to find the app that is causing the problem.

It will be one of the added apps that is currently running.

Before Marshmallow my Do Not Disturb feature worked perfectly. Now it won't turn on and off automatically and I'm not sure if my Priority settings are still working when I manually turn on Do Not Disturb.
2nd issue - I use Alarm Clock Extreme (for years on at least 3 phones) but now it won't work unless I turn off my Lock Screen.
I really don't want to do a factory reset but…
Suggestions anyone?
