Marshmallow now on Verizon!

Anyone have a successful use of WiFi calling? So far it has not worked for me, despite all the settings and agreement part being utilized.

Battery life really sucks with MM! Seiosly considering the iPhone 7+ when my 2-yr. plan is up in the Fall. Would probably consider a switch back to ATT which I think is faster.
 
My Marshmellow upgrade went well. I did a Factory Reset right after the upgrade. Of course I backed up everything prior and took a lot of screenshots as a reference. I had it install as a new phone option which is a lot of work reloading but I cleaned house.

One issue which I think I resolved was that their were pre-installed games and apps that I would either disable or un-install and they would reinstall themselves later. I think the solution was to DISABLE "DT IGNITE"... then the apps stopped reinstalling themselves.

Otherwise I think my battery life is better but I did a clean install.

I'm still on my motorcycle tour and not willing to chance messing up, nor not having access to all of my backups at home on the Desktop PC.
and just don't have the spare time available to do a rebuild...

So, I just let the OTA go thru and did a restart.
All seems well, but I have a feeling, no proof, but it seems the battery life is not as good as it was with 5.1.1

Hard to say though, as with me running all over in a strange town, I have DATA turned on all the time. Whereas before, I never used data at all, just WiFi around the house.

I will say though, that nothing seems to be any worse than before.
Some things "seem to be" a bit snappier than before.
 
Followed up on DT Ignite and turned it off.
Thanks for that hint. I have seen the odd thing or two show up, but have always been able to uninstall them.
Still though, nothing should ever be installed unless I ask for it...

So far good for me. I have noticed increased battery life, but that could be because I have WiFi calling set up instead of being on my VZW network extender at work. Otherwise, I just notice it's smoother. I did a factory reset a week before the update, so it could be a combination between the 2.
 
The battery on my Note 4 is not holding up as well as what I would like to see.

but, I am not in a 'normal situation'.

the phone gets an overnight charge and I jump on the bike and off to the races.....
tonight, I had to power it down to make sure there was enough battery left to call my wife after we got out of the twisty canyons in northern Georgia.... it was at 18% and we still had 1.5 hours riding to do before we came out to where there are any cell sites....

finally, we found a tiny 1 horse shoe town, and I powered it up, called the wife at 1:30
AM and let her know we are okay..... my son and I had a hell of a good time....

come daylight, I am going to the O'Reilly's store in little burg and see if I can find a good quality charging cord for my phone.... need a cigarette lighter plug on it, and a thick heavy insulation to stand up to the rigors of being mistreated in the wind on a motorcycle.
 
HATE the update!!! My N4 is highly optimized (all the system tweaks, no social media crap, and battery Doctor) and along with enabled Power saving mode I charge my phone once every other day. In Android 5.x with Power Saving mode you can still enable background data, meaning you can receive your emails. Now, MM Power Saving mode (btw, puts an ugly gray notification bar) restricts background data without an option to enable it and you have to retrieve emails manually (by refresh).

That forces me to disable Power Saving mode. The result? I usually have over 50% left toward the end of the day, but now it's down to 28% with no other changes, so far consistent for 2 days like that. And phone feels warm when I charge it.

I hope VZW release a patch for Power Saving mode to enable background data... Just my humble opinion, of course.

Do you mean you have Battery Doctor installed?
If so,there's a problem right off the bat.

Cheetah Mobile is notorious for Crapware,they're mining your phone for data & selling/sending it to who knows where.

For apps that you never/seldom use,but,can't kill/disable,try Package Disabler Pro:

If you're not sure what's safe to disable,the app itself gives some guidelines.It's kinda conservative,you can disable more,give me a holla if you have any ?'s
Do not uninstall anything,just disable.
Permanently deleting items may prevent you from getting future updates pushed to your phone.
When the time to update arrives,re-enable everything,take the update,then disable the offending apps once again.

The cons are hot phone/battery, decreased battery life, occasional delay in entering text with typing, failure to ever successfully use WiFi phone call, changes in some of my phone's settings, and something new over the last two days. In my car on Bluetooth, I've been getting 2-3 interuptions listening to the radio or music per day, with a loud female voice message: "failure to find network...check your network settings". For the life of me I cannot find why it is doing this, nor have I found any change in phone setttings to stop it. I haven't driven this car until yesterday, and no factors can be attributed to the car itself.

Anyone else with these problems including the last described one?

Did you do a factory reset after your upgrade to Mm? I always recommend and fdr after a major update.

I agree with MLSS, I always do a factory reset after a. A major update. Yes it's a pain but my phone is running like butta'.
I use Bluetooth everyday (streaming music, Waze, making calls, etc) with no strange issues so far.

Regarding the WiFi calling, I have been unable to set it up on my Verizon Note 4. I go to System Settings > Advanced Calling and WiFi Calling is Greyed Out. The only other choice there is Advanced Calling. When I click on it and click activate, it says it's already activated on my line and to restart my phone. At that point both choices are grayed out until I restart my phone and then it's back to WiFi Calling grayed out and not Advanced Calling. I'm lost here and gave up until reading your post.
One other weird thing, while posting here, I don't have the Cursor so I can move thru text to where I want to post...not able to scroll to the end of large quotes. I'm using Chrome, if that matters.

I appreciate the replies. No, I did not do a (gulp) factory reset after the update. I will try to do it this weekend, and report back on the results, but I remain a skeptic. Funny that the factory reset wasn't officially recommended with the update.

I enabled WiFi calling by the settings on Advanced Calling with no success.

Still baffled by that audio message I'm getting in my car, over Bluetooth, about the network.

The reason why a lot of us recommend doing it is so you have a clean install of the new OS. Sometimes their will be residual files left over from the previous OS and doing a reset will clear them out.

You could also try wiping the cache partition to see if that helps.

Okay, had the time so I wiped the cache partition. I'll report if it helps.

[SOLVED MY WIFI CALLING PROBLEM] with a little help from a friendly Verizon Tech on the phone.

Here's what he had me do:

- Had me go thru the steps I said above, trying to activate.
- Restarted phone with no changes.
- Turn off WiFi, Turn on Wifi, try again with no change.

Here's where it fixed it:

- Make sure you have your WiFi Password handy
- Went to System Settings > Backup and reset (sounds scary, I know) > Reset NETWORK settings (you will be prompted for your password if you use one) > A Reset Settings button pops up then which you click on.
- Restart Phone
- Re-enter WiFi password when connecting
- Went to System Settings > Advanced Calling - Then I had 3 choices instead of 2 and none grayed out this time.
- Clicked on the 2nd choice Advanced Calling > make sure HD Voice and Video Calling is chosen then back out
- Click on WiFi Calling > Enter your Emergency Address and voilà it works!
I think he may have had me restart my phone again and check those settings but I'm not sure.

I was able to test making a WiFi call by turning on Airplane Mode then turning on WiFi and making a call.

NOTE: NO INFORMATION IS LOST DOING THE RESET NETWORK SETTINGS. YOU JUST HAVE TO RE-ENTER YOUR WIFI PASSWORDS AND RE-PAIR BLUETHOOTH DEVICES WHEN DONE. This may help our friend "CANESFAN" with the voice talking on his bluetooth saying recheck network settings - I would try it.

Anyways Done!!! :)

Ok, when I went to press "Reset Network", there's a delay, then I get a message "unfortunately Settings has stopped". Guess I have problem(s) that necessitate calling Verizon Tech, Support. All started with Marshmallow!

Follow-up: after over an hour on the phone with level I and II Verizon Tech. support, and going through various tests, their conclusion was that my problem(s) is a firmware problem with the Marshmallow update. I therefore have to do the factory reset, as some of you mentioned.

Conclusion: don't do updates.

Well, spent HOURS, after the factory reset, attempting to get my phone's accounts, personalization, what-have-you back to where it was before the MM maelstrom. I was not successful at getting it back 100% due to a variety of reasons, but perhaps back to 95% or so. My impressions: battery is still draining quicker than formerly (new battery, 3 days old, too), successful use of WiFi calling, and no intrusive voice coming through on my car's Bluetooth warning about no networks.

Sooo...we'll see, but still not entirely a happy camper about all of this.

I am getting a mixed reading on the success of MM with the Galaxy S5.

My wife's S5 is still on 4.4.4 and the only reason it is, is that I have DATA and WiFi both turned OFF, and it is using MacroDroid to ensure that they both stay off at all times.

she only uses it for games and as a telephone, she does not ever use or need the Internet with it. She has a great little tablet that works super on the Internet, so I feel that is why she is not grousing at me that here phone "is not good"....

I had been thinking to let it go with the MM upgrade, but I am still concerned with the occasional bad results that we are reading about here.
