Massive Text Deletion

I am currently trying to delete a massive thread with over 41,000 messages, but when I try, my phone just kind of messes up or goes blank or restarts. Any help or advice?

Probably best to delete a few thousand at a time.... lol. That sounds funny. But seriously. Delete some, let u phone cool down. Delete some more. Rinse and repeat.

My ex's old Evo 4G had this same problem trying to delete a thread with alot of messages. Unfortunately a factory reset (backup before of course was the only way to fix it without the phone freezing up and crashing each time.
