Mastodon's "the hunter"

This album has been stuck playing for me now since it came out. And it has got to be the most confusing album I've ever listened to. the first few listens left me dissapointed since it's no where near as sludgy as their previous albums. After a while the songs started growing on me, they're alot more catchy, at least in the sense that its very easy to get lost in the music with out meaning to. Now that I've had the CD for close to a week I can say that it's one of my favorite albums, not just by this band, but of all time. One of my favorite things is the overall direction of the album, as well as how it relates to a lot of their earlier albums. Mastodon has always followed a theme with their albums and this one is no different, it's a very space age sounding album although not futuristic. The best part of the album doesn't fall on the album itself but after listening to it in order from their first CD. It feels like a journey through time and into the future.

Once you get done with the album you have some of the best album art I've seen, very trippy designs that match the music perfectly.

Overall a very good album although it does take some time to get into if your a previous mastodon fan!

I heard it is good, but I have been catching up with a ton of albums I have accumulated over the past few months tho.. Maybe I'll push it to the front of the listening list.

I'll have to check it out, I was a fan of Mastodon's earlier stuff. But after the first album I struggled to listen to it. Saw them live with Dethklok about a year ago, and I really wasn't impressed by their live performance.
