Maximum depth tests on new Water Proof phones

Has anyone managed to find maximum depth tests on any of the Xperia line or the S4 active

I can easily find a video of one being cut in half, but cannot find any being tested in water besides little dips...

I saw a video on cnet a while ago where were dipping various non-waterproof phones in water and some of them lasted surprisingly well, so out of interest I'd love to see some of the 1-1.5m waterproof photo phones down at 5-10 metres.

Anyone got anything?

I remember reading about it but cant remember lol. Isnt the xperia z rated at 1m for 30minutes? Ive read that you cant use them underwater because the water messes around with the digitiser. I think Adrianizen (think thats how its spelled) water tested the Z on youtube. He's evil to phones. I remember he flushed his s3 in the toilet. Worked fine

The Xperia Z/Ultra/Z1 and the S4 Active have been certified to the internationally-agreed IP (Ingress Protection) standard.

Xperia Z: IP55, IP57
Xperia Z1: IP55, IP58
S4 Active: IP67

An explanation of the IP rating system can be found here, but IP57/67 is submersion for up to 30mins at a depth of up to 1m, while IP58 increases the depth to "over 1m" (1.5m according to Sony).

Any of these might survive a very brief in-and-out to >10m, but the pressure encountered by any prolonged submersion at that depth will surpass the capabilities of their sealing... or more likely crack the screen glass!

Waterproof to 5-10 metres?

Is someone planning to go snorkeling or scuba diving with a cellphone? Don't think it would really work anyway. Besides probably the touch screen not working underwater, it could be difficult to talk to people on it while submerged....bubble...gurgle...bubble....gurgle....

I understand the ratings, however there has been a lot of conjecture over how waterproof a lot of these phones really are, a heap of ip57 and ipx rated phones in these categories have failed but it could easily have been user error... im just surprised given how many phones I've seen wontonly destroyed, no one is depth testing these 1-1.5m deep phones. I haven't even seen anyone emulate the IP certification tests

Well the truth is that the real use isn't to actually use it under water, but to survive being caught in the rain, dropped in your soup/beer/bath. So the specs they are tested to go beyond those cases (as long as everything is closed up properly).

If you are thinking of "depth test" videos it's probably that they would be more work than the silly "drop tests", and take a lot longer.

(I say that drop tests are silly because they are just anecdotal. Drop the same model from the same height 100 times and I'll take an interest. Do it once and the outcome either way could be a matter or luck, good or bad.)

Ahh okay, dunno if you guys have seen this but Galaxy S4 beats iPhone 5 in our brutal destruction test video | CNET UK was what got me thinking... Not for the faint hearted and fairly wonton...

I originally almost bought the active s4 when it came out, then problems with the waterproofing came up, likewise the xperia Z (although problems with that seemed to be the case heating up and seperating slightly near the CPU), but couldn't find any proper tests to prove their rating... I understand that they passed the certifications but it's hard to know if we got the same phone which was tested or whether the conditions were set to be absolutely ideal or what.

Anyway, just preordered an Xperia Z1 so fingers crossed it comes to light that these thiings are as good as their rating
