My gripe isn't with the slower speeds I am seeing. I am annoyed that I had to spend 3 hours getting my phone back to how it was before the update since it reformatted my SD card and erased all data on the phone (all pictures, apps and music are gone). Not to mention I am seeing 3G now in places I never did before.

I just wish I had had an option to wait and see what others experienced with the update before it was pushed to my phone without my knowledge. I am not a beta tester, nor do I want to be. I expect the update to be polished before it arrives on my device. Very disappointed with this update.

I did Speed Test last night after the update and got less than .5Mbps upload and download. Slooooowww. Same thing this morning. On the other hand, WiFi still cranks and the phone feels a tad snappier. I'm on the fringe of a 4G area so I'm curious to see if this update will "pull" the 4G signal better.

UPDATE - Interesting. It seems the update downloaded last night but did not install. Turned on the phone this morning and it said 2:45m until the update installs. When the countdown hit zero, nothing happened. Phone software is still at level .6. I wonder if installing the Amon Ra recovery prevents the update.

I believe you have to flash the stock recovery for the OTA to take. Info here:

I'm shocked anyone is using Speed Test results as a reliable before/after performance metric at all.

They could always go to the trouble of putting the same file on a server and downloading, but then you introduce different variables there as well.

I have a G-tech that I used to use for my car. It would approximate horsepower, torque, 1/4 mile and 0-60 times. Many people thought it was a joke. I actually thought it was a decent tool for trying to get some baseline data. I'm not about to spend several thousand dollars on a dynanometer to measure HP and TQ. Even after spending all that money you're still not going to get a real world number since you're not accounting for the extra airflow due to acceleration, the extra down force from the wind resistance, etc etc.

But I digress, at least speedtest will give us a point of comparison even if the data may be a little skewed.

I better add that I am on hour 3 of getting my phone set up to the way it was before due to the update erasing all info on my phone (apps, you name it), it somehow re-formatted my SD card losing all pictures and music too.

Given the chance, I never would have done this update.

I checked my SD card after the update and did not have an issue.

You did plug the SD card into a computer and do a manual search for some of the items that you've lost correct? The only reason I ask is that the Rezound does weird things with the SD card. A lot of my stuff is sitting inside directory SDcard/ext_sd/SDcard

I understand the desire to gauge an approximation, sure. Specific to the picture of speed test results posted earlier, the three results viewable pre-update average out to about 15 mbps and the remaining post-update results average out to about 11 Mbps. Given the variability in the network at a given time, I'm not so sure I'd personally be suspicious of the update based solely on that alone. It's a decrease, yes, but that could change very quickly and quite drastically, as evidenced by the phone sitting right next to it.

The un-updated phone sitting next to it on the right has a higher average of around 18 Mbps, but the range of variability between the three tests done in what looks to be the span of a minute is far greater. (~20Mbps to ~13Mbps.)

Bottom line is if the owner of the device is noticing a slowdown, it's worth looking into, but just looking at the specific data posted doesn't seem all that out of the norm from what I've seen on my phone.

What if Verizon DID dial down the signal strength because of all the Nexus returns? "If we cripple the Rezound's signal strength then when people compare it to the Nexus, the Nexus won't suffer by comparison".

But Verizon didn't mess it! I tested it at the mall earlier this afternoon (hey.. it was lunch time... i'm not a mall rat ok?!!) The Rezound is still super good like this...

This is all interesting. Personally, everything seems pretty much OK with mine, although signal strength seems a bit lower than usual. But the weather has been really lousy, so I'll reserve judgement on that. Couldn't a real speed test comparison be done in a lab by one of the techs? I don't understand why the update should affect speed, (conspiracy theories aside.)

Yeah, that happened to me back in (what was it?) October when the last update came in for my Incredible. Everything was wiped, sd card too.

My speed test results are all over the place, always have been since day one, ranging anywhere from 8 all the way up to 22. It would seem completely normal to me to see variances of a few Mbps anytime I run a test, so I wouldn't think to use that as a hard fast gauge of post-update download speed perfromance. Maybe that's unique to my location, and everyone else always sees just about the same speeds everytime they test, I dunno.

Seems like there's so many variables, even beyond my control, that so long as it's relatively fast and isn't preventing me from accessing whatever content I want and/or isn't slowing me down, I'm not sure I really care if it's 15 down one day and 11 the next.

Speed Test might be useful to gain trend data over periods of time and different locations/conditions, but I'm not sure I'd treat it is a diagnostic tool so much given the myriad variables in the network itself.

Oh, also: mine updated just fine, and I've noticed no real difference of any kind in terms of usability. Speeds seem within the same range of "normal" as they did prior to the update.

I agree speedtest.net,seems to fluctuate often weather testing 3g/4g or Wifi,have yet to test the 4G after update,i will the next time i go to my sisters house,no 4G in my town,but 3G seems a little better,mostly at home i have it on my Wifi, Fios 35/35 which is real fast,so the update seemed to be good for me.

My phone reads -90dBm...is that bad?

The -90 is not too hot but may be ok too if you are inside a building, local weather currently not too good or just further away from the cell towers/sites (or all 3 combined). As long as you have a Rezound which i think you have... you are fine as your Rezound will be as good as a phone should be. I was like 100 ft from the cell tower and so i got this favorable -44dBm number. If you were here in the same spot with your Rezound you too will have the same number. So.. don't worry... you're fine! bye.

Yes. The sd card was blank. 14gb free when it was full before.

My phone has been in 3g 90% of the time since the update, i had only seen 3g 2-3 times total since I got the phone on launch day...

Anyone know if Verizon will give me problems trying to get a replacement phone due to the update? I dont want a refurbished phone, but i think i am out of options... I went from loving this phone to hating it due to a 10 min update that gives me 1 more bar on the signal strength..

Did you do a factory reset? Try a new sim card before replacing it, unless your looking for a replacement.

Checked signal to a non-updated phone, side-by-side in a local Verizon store. NON-updated phone had better signal by 10 to 12 dBm!!! NOT a very happy customer right now.

Did you do a factory reset? Try a new sim card before replacing it, unless your looking for a replacement.

I am not looking for a replacement, but I definitely won't use the phone in the current state. It is bouncing from 1x to 3g. I know the 4g is working fine in my area because if I take the phone and set it to CDMA only then back to LTE/CDMA, 4g will stay on for a little while.

I got to know this phone pretty well since launch day, it had zero problems before the update, now I have more issues than on any phone I have ever had. Bringing up a webpage takes 3-5 minutes.

I guess I will try the factory reset as a last resort, but if not, hopefully Verizon won't push back on issuing a new phone.
