If I get it, I want to be able to degoogleize it as much as possible. I don't like them and I want to use the room for something better. Are there any suggestions? The main things I want to do, as I've mentioned, are download minimal ADB + fastboot to fix my phone (I hope), get Linux, although apparently attacks on it have been increasing, and finally be able to use Calibre.

you are going to have to learn linux. it is not an easy thing to learn. and you will limit the use of the chromebook if you do. there are only certain apps that will work in linux.
i use google's pixelbook. i have two with only one working at the moment. been thinking about upgrading to a samsung windows laptop though.

A while ago, I was thinking of getting a Chromebook,and my friend as well too,just for the heck of it, it is a good thing I switched and got a Samsung tablet, On St. Paddy's day a while ago. My bugger friend who wants one, his Laptop is severely messed up in the head... He does not know what kind of dangerous kids lurk around and have infinite protocol of even windows update too, one day I took it for a spin and Cclean it, but I am not so sure if he decided to keep it or not.. What an odd bummer though,would of have him only with his laptop and work it throughout windows ten.
i love my pixelbook. it gives me great battery life. it is super light and very portable. the screen is the best i have seen on a laptop. been rocking this puppy for about 4 years now. never really looked into changing the os or try linux on it. but, if i do end up getting a new laptop. i might have fun with it and try something different on it.

Awesome man,been keeping up with my sister's moto g power and so I looked at the manual online.......hmmm...I might like to get a pixelbook but the chrome thing's free. I'm sure we all know the joke about Mr. Right...v. Mr. RIGHT NOW. Anyway, I wasn't planning on going with Debian, although Ubuntu is apparently based on that. I just want something user friendly, lightweight, and NOT Google. Tell me more about the recent Linux problems with malware and such. I also want to add an external hard drive, most likely Western Digital, because I'm pretty sure this thing's will be puny.

If you're going to install linux then you don't have to worry about de-googling it. Just don't install google products afterwards.
I checked in my Manjaro software center and Calibre is available with the click of a button.

Also note, linux is not difficult to use anymore, that's a thing of the past. I'm a linux poweruser and advocate and admit that it used to be a nightmare to configure, but now it's just as simple to use as any other OS. The difficult part is choosing from the many linux distros available.

I should probably install Linux first and then do minimal adb + fastboot, right? My understanding is that Linux runs with a separate partition from windows or chrome or whatever it is. Therefore the stuff that's already on there should not affect Linux. I sure hope I can get rid of all the Google, though.

When you install Linux you can choose to install it alongside Windows (dual boot), in which case you can choose to boot Linux or Windows each time (from the Linux boot menu, or you can replace Windows altogether. In either case, make sure you back up all your data in case anything goes wrong - I've never had any problems dual booting (or triple booting Windows and two linuxes). Just be careful and make sure you understand what you're doing first.
