Root Maybe I was doing something wrong?

I tried for almost a complete day to format an sd card with an EXT partition last week. Gparted reported all was fine. All was geat until I booted the phone up to put the rom on it and then when the phone prepared the sdcard it removed all partitions and the ext was gone. I had two good quality sdcards both genuine Kingstons (4gb & 8gb) and both did the same. eventually I gave up and waited for the 16gb I had on order.

The 16gb arrived yesterday so I usb booted Gpart, formatted the card directly froma tutorial on xda, all went well. I then booted the phone, put the flash rom on it and booted into recovery. No flash zip there. Exactly the same problem as last time. It seemed like once the phone mounted the card it removed everything. even to the point of showing the true full capacity of the card even though Gparted said there was a 1gb EXT3 on it. Yet going back into gparted it now showed unallocated space??

So the only option last night was to take the card out of the phone, put into usb reader, format through Gparted. Then to drag and drop the flash rom onto it. Then put the card into the phone and boot straight into recovery.

guess what? No problems at all, it flashed Leedroid 2.3 a2sd perfectly, its reporting everything great and working a charm.

My question is what was I doing wrong? I formatted the card exactly the same way when it was in the phone to when it was in the reader...

The end result is good, just dont understand why it would act this way?

Not 100% sure I understand that (I get the feeling I F***** up now lol)

Once gparted had done its stuff I simply booted the phone normally. the message would come up on the phone, 'preparing sdcard'. Then I would connect to pc as disk drive and drag the zip over.

Once the zip had transferred I would reboot into recovery.

What I meant was did you mount in recovery? In clockwork you have to mount the SD card as "USB mass storage" but in a pm since then I now know you are using AmonRA. I don't know that recovery to be honest
