Mcafee buying Wavesecure

well if mcafee bought it then you can bet it will be garbage fairly quick....... and if it ends up anything like the rest of their products youll have to d/l another app just to uninstall it lol

Does this mean the next time you install the app, it will create 300 folders with thousands of files in it and then require you to search for a separate application to uninstall all of that? :D

Hi all,
Noticed some concerns about the subscription offer. If you obtained lifetime subscription during the beta, WaveSecure will remain free for as long as you use that device.

Thanks,

Hi BiGMERF,
The same team behind WaveSecure will still be responsible for the product. Those who got free lifetime subscription to WaveSecure during the trial will still be have their subscription for as long as they use that device.

Hi waynester,
I'm not one of the founders so I didn't make money out of the acquisition. I'm just a lowly key pusher. :)

horrible news :( mcafee make terrible software, hope they let the wavesecure team manage the app, and don't force any of their horrible ideas on it.

Mcafee is the one sole issue i have that stops me getting things done on my work laptop.

thats like hoping apple has no say on att

The funny thing is I have the free lifetime WaveSecure but I don't even use it.. ha ha ha. Still glad I download and test out alot of apps though otherwise I would be stuck when the company gets bought out.

It's one of those apps you hope you don't have to use. But when you lose your phone you might wish you had it. Not that there isn't several other apps that do the same thing.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if your phone gets stolen or lost, can't you just call your carrier to track it via GPS? I was under the impression that this was easy to do because most smartphones are equipped with location tracking for 911 service.

why go through all that when you can track it and either give to the popo or go with they ass yourself

Because:

1) I don't need another app running CONSTANTLY in the background.
2) I don't need a third-party company knowing my exact location every moment of the day.
3) Another app = less storage space (my device has less than 200mb for programs) :(
4) The last few of these security programs that I've used continually polled my GPS, rendering my batteries useless after a day.
5) I have to give my carrier a reason to be good for something :D

Hi wmtoandroid,
Just to clarify a few misconceptions.

#1 WaveSecure app doesn't run constantly in the background. Only the service does that. It only launches when remote commands are sent to it or if you launch it from the phone.

#2 Folks at WaveSecure won't know your exact location every moment of the day. Only you can initiate a tracking request. Just think, if the tracking is continuously and the app is running all the time, your battery will be drained in a no time.

#3 True. Every program takes up space on the phone when installed. However, with Froyo hopefully more apps can be installed to external storage.

#4 I am sure WaveSecure is not one of those programs that does so. Probably badly written apps don't shut down the GPS function properly after using it.

#5 Sure. But your carrier probably couldn't help you with backing up your data remotely, sounding an alarm to warn the thieft, locking your phone remotely to protect your privacy.

^Thanks for taking part in this thread.

Honestly, I love Wavesecure and gladly pay for it anyway (my previous comments notwithstanding).

Thanks for your reply Cheewee. Just to make it clear. I wasn't referring specifically about Wavesecure having those issues (I've personally never tried your application), but I have used other software that was more trouble than the benefits they offered. ;)

I have loved WaveSecure on my phone and have tested it randomly without a single problem. For sh*ts and giggles, I backed up all of my phone data to my computer and then sent the instruction to wipe my phone after I first installed the app. It worked like a charm, if I remember correctly. (Two small kids = no sleep, no long term memory, and no money, but that is another story all together.)
