Help Media Player - HELP TO DELETE before I throw this thing!

pookiehos

Lurker
I have tried deleting the originally media player with instructions I got on one of the general android threads and it does not work. I have had nothing but trouble with this stupid thing and if I don't get it off I am going to have a melt down.

The media player turns on, anytime it feels like it. I have the task killer set to aggressive to kill it, no luck. If I plug in my headphones, like for a call, it starts, then if I make a call, it starts and kicks me off the call, if I receive a call, call voicemail, it starts and kicks me off. I am using PowerAMP and really want it gone!

I was instructed that deleting the musicPlayer.apk and musicPlayer.odex from the root menu would do the trick, but when I do this it deletes and then immediately pops back up. How can I get this thing gone for good?

Root and flash a ROM on that baby. Bye Bye crapware. I'm partial to Serendipity but head over to xda and look around and ask questions.

OK, it appears I am officially too stupid to own a phone.

I have figured so far to put update.zip on what the instructions say the root file on the phone (by the way, how can I put it in a root file when I can't get to the root?). So I don't know where to put it to get it to run.... again, officially too stupid. Help. Can someone explain this like I am 3?

Rooting and custom hacked ROMs are advanced topics. They require and involve more technical skill than the typical phone owner and carry along additional risk and responsibility. They aren't for everyone.

This thread is an example of the unfortunate trend I've mentioned where every newcomer is pushed to go down the route of hacked ROMs without full disclosure, as if everyone is doing it and it's simply expected.

Thanks, I appreciate the info. The funny thing is that I have an undergraduate in computer science and computer languages, but it always seems like there is one step missing in all of these. I know what most of the files are so I am not afraid of the root folders, just can't get to them.

I have just ordered the HTC Inspire, should be here today, so ugh, I don't know.
