Help media sound issue

Hey peeps

probably a really silly eeasy one but cant figure it out. i go to listen to the radio when theres no sound i press the plus on the side of the phone and the media volume bar appears empty with a cross on it presuming this is mute?

anyhows i go into settings>sound>volume and drag the media volume bar upto 3/4 then press ok only to find it has reset itself straight back to mute everytime i exit the sound menu?

just checked, on my widget bar its on normal loud profile but when i press and hold the off button the menu there says its on silent? so i deselect this to put it so it shows silent mode off onlt for the widget bar to show its on silent
