Help Memory Control

I have an LG phone with about 200Mb usable RAM and an SD card. I have moved everthing that I can to SD and still I am low on RAM - only about 15Mb. I have tried App 2 SD and it found no other apps that could be moved.

What do you do? This seems like a major flaw - limited RAM and an inability to move the apps. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Only suggestions I can really give you is to get a new phone with more memory for appear, or start deleting appear you don't need. Is this causing you problems, or do you just want more room to install appear?

I think you're confusing a few things here. RAM and ROM are two different things.

RAM vs ROM - Difference and Comparison | Diffen

Moving the apps back and forth will not make any difference in how much RAM is being utilized by your device.

To help determine whether this is a RAM or ROM issue, is this regarding performance issues, or are you out of space to install apps?

You may be right about RAM vs ROM - I assumed it was RAM as it is working memory for storing apps, rather the OS.

I am getting a notification that I am low on memory and when I check under Settings, it tells me that I have 16MB available. This is for memory where I keep apps. Last time this happened, I moved everything possible to the SD card, which freed up room. Now, there is nothing left to move.

As far as I'm aware, I don't think a warning exists for low RAM (android tries to handle all of that behind the scenes), so I'm almost certain that's a low ROM warning. Like IOWA said, moving apps around wouldn't sure RAM issues either.

If you've already moved every app you can using the standard apps2sd built into android, your only real option (other than uninstalling apps), would be to root the phone and install custom firmware. Rooted phones can provide a more extreme, unofficial version of apps2sd, where every user app can be forced to the sdcard, regardless of compatibility. There are some apps you shouldn't move (e.g. widgets cannot be loaded from the sdcard reliably), but usually you can move many apps you couldn't with stock apsp2sd. Custom firmware is usually optimised to use less space in the first place too.

Would you mind telling me which phone you have Dan? I'll be able to bump your thread over to your phone's own section where they can give you advice specific to your device.

It is a Telus LG Optimus 3G, but the official model number is LG-CX670 in Canada, which should be the same as the LS670 and US670 in the US.

LG sure do love to re-use the optimus prefix for their phones , but it looks like the Optimus S (LS670) is the section for you :)
