Help memory from sd card to phone

i am trying to sync my phone with pc for music and photos, i am getting a warning from my pc stating my phones sd has not got the available storage for the sync!! can i change it so that the files are synced to the phone and not the card as the phone has a memory 16gb and my card has only 1.8 gb free.

is the 16gb for apps n stuff, is all stuff needed to go on the card ie ext memory, confused.com, any explanations to this. pleh
 
I am trying to sync all images from my laptop to my samsung galaxy s2 using windows photo galery, i am geting a message stating there is not enough memory on sd card, is there any way of having music, pictures etc stored on phone?? i curently have a 2GB sd card in phone and have a 16GB card on its way!!!
Can you advise or is that the case that the phones memory is for apps n stuff and that you need an external memory for my media??

The way in which the memory in the SGS2 (and for all Android phones for all I know) is named is very confusing.

The directory /sdcard is not the SD card, it's the internal user memory. The real SD card is mounted on /sdcard/external_sd. Are you sure that these files are going where you expect them to?

Have not tried syncin with card out loony, but will at weekend when i have more time to fry my brain with it thanks!!
Yip i am finding the memory issue confusing with this phone lotus, in settings/storage, it shows sd card 1.89GB free, usb storage 11.50GB with 8.58 free, device memory 1.77GB free.
Any advise on memory(s) and where and how stuff is stored, thanks guys!!
 
I'll try to explain to the best of my knowledge.

The phone has 16GiB of flash memory used for storage. Note that this is GiB ie not real Gigabytes but the sort disk manufacturers use in adverts. Consequently the amount of internal memory is about 14.8GB (real GB). Some of this space is reserved for the OS itself. That leaves about 12GB of free space.

If you go to Settings->Storage the top category titled "SD card" is your removable micro SD card. On my phone this shows 29.88GB free on my 32GiB micro SD card. This space is not normally used by the OS at all so you can do what you like with it. This is mounted on /sdcard/external_sd.

The category below, "USB storage" is the internal memory available for user use. This is mounted on /sdcard.

Without rooting your phone, you won't have access to the "Device memory" and in any case, you don't want to start messing around with that or you could screw up your phone if you don't know what you're doing.

On my phone the external SD card is almost empty but it looks like yours is almost full. How large is it and what's on it? It looks like you need to check to see what is filling up your external SD card. Have a look what's there and depending what it is, you can probably just move it from /sdcard/external_sd to somewhere in /sdcard using the file manager.

This is confusing me. /sdcard/external_sd is my removable sd card - that part I get. And /sdcard/usbStorage is the 12Gb (or thereabouts) of the internal memory that I can do with what I like.

So where is /sdcard/media (for example).

And why do images that I place in a directory /sdcard/usbStorage/Wallpapers not show up in the Gallery app?
 
Actually Brykins /sdcard is the phone internal storage. The folder /sdcard/usbStorage for is actually for USB hosting. It will show as empty until you plug in e.g. a card reader into the external USB port and the phone hosts that device. It is called usb on the go. Most people don't use it but I'm using it for a card reader so I don't have to rip the back cover off for adhoc access to a additional card.

I understand this should be correct... but how come I can store files there, with no external USB device connected :confused:

Funny when an external USB flash key is inserted these files disappear, although the card becomes a subfolder of usbstorage. But they reappear upon removal of the USB flash.
There are also file copy issues - the subfolders are not copied.
