Help Memory issue in HTC Desire HD after upgrading to Android 2.3.5

After upgrading my HTC Desire HD to Android 2.3.5, the phone is facing memory issues.
The Task Manager mostly shows less then 100 MB of memory out of 516MB.
It is also creating problem in multi-tasking. The apps automaticaly get killed in the background. Some time even the home screen gets killed if playing any game or using any heavy app. Then it takes around 15-20 seconds for the home screen to re-load.

Please let me know if there is any solution for this.

You're not using a task killer, are you? I would link to a post with a full run down on why not to use one, but I'm on my phone at the moment, so can't (will link later, when I get on the computer)!

Hi,
Thanks of replying.
I do have task killer but that kills an applications once I select and force to.

Can you please elaborate on what is required here.
Also please link me to the post having some detail description about this.

Stop using a task killer, it goes against the way Android works and has a negative impact on performance. There's an article here that's worth checking out: Android Task Killers Explained: What They Do and Why You Shouldn't Use Them

As Android is based on the Linux kernel, it benefits in using the RAM and will kill background tasks when it needs to. Any specific app you're having an issue with? Have you tried clearing the cache and data associated with Sense using the Manage Apps menu in the settings?

I don't not have problem with any specific app. Its about the over all functioning of the phone. As you mentioned that "it kill background tasks when it needs to", so it does.
Even if I have opened 2-3 apps, it starts killing the backgroud running apps. Even some time it kills the Sence (home screen) which is most annoying because then I have to wait for about 10 secs for it to reload.
Most of the time it show free momory as about 80-90MB out of 516 without killing any apps. Is there any threshold limit after which it start killing the background running apps which I can alter.

Also would it be helpful if you let me know how to clear cache and data related to Sense as I am not able to find it in Manage App in Setting for my desire HD.

Sorry I didn't get back to you as I said I would... I must have missed this thread when I got home that day!

Android should not be killing Sense... I am a little surprised by that! What are you doing with your phone when it kills Sense?

I am not sure if there is a way to change the threshold limit, but if Android needs more memory to complete tasks, it will kill more background processes.

I am running a custom ROM at present, so cannot advise on clearing the cache in Sense - sorry!!

Thanks..

I'm not using Sense at the moment but (off the top of my head) I believe you need to go to Settings > Applications > Manage Apps. Then on the top bar there should be an option that says 'All'. Go there and find the app HTC Sense, then click on it to bring you to the app info page. Scroll down a bit and you will see the cache with the amount that it is storing. There will be an option next to it that says 'Clear Cache'. Press that and it's all gone. Try clearing out all the caches of the apps you use the most (ones that use a lot are the browser, facebook, any forum apps you have) if you want to clear some extra space on your internal memory.

Regarding the lack of memory, this is pretty normal for Sense. When I use Sense I usually have about 90MB of memory free, but it has always been ok for me.

Also about Sense restarting itself and having to wait for 20 seconds or so for the homescreen to load again, my friend has this exact problem with his new Sensation, but I couldn't figure out why it was doing that. Hopefully there is a solution and I can relay the message :)
