Hey everyone, a hopefully quick question that I (or rather my fianc

OK, you would not necessarily need to root her phone, but as for her Google account password, it's easy to retrieve it / reset it - go to google.com, use the link at the top right to sign in, then use the forgot password to initiate the reset.

At this point, unless she really doesn't mind you rooting her phone, I'd opt for a Factory reset - but that will also require her to use her Google account password. I'm betting that is it not cache so much as it is data that killing her phone - things like call logs, SMS, and data for apps.

If you go into settings --> Manage applications and check each individual app out, you can see how much space is being used for data - that will tell you who the big offender is.

Thanks for the response, checking running apps, it looks like her email is using up about 102 mb of memory. I think we found the culprit..assuming email uses up internal memory?

Data and cache for all apps uses the same internal storage space as the apps themselves.

Make sure you're clear on whether the low memory warnings refer to low RAM or low storage space. Freeing storage space will not affect performance. If sluggishness is an issue then look into RAM and CPU utilization.

After everything was said and done she now has 40 MB of internal memory free. This still seems to be a bit low.
Based on...? Depends on the specific user's usage. 40MB might be plenty for some while not enough for others.

It was internal storage space that was sending up warnings. She was syncing with her AOL account which receives all of her spam mail. She was deleting the spam from the inbox, but never emptied the trash through the computer. The phone was storing the trash bin (over 5k worth of email/spam) in the memory. Finally got all of the trash emptied out late last night so I'll check the phone again and see what the storage is like.

40 MB seemed low in comparison to my phone, and the apps she was using. Nothing seemed like it was using up alot of space...other then the mail account.

I'll agree that 40 MB is a bit low if she doesn't have a lot of apps installed.

With Apps2SD on a rooted DROID, I am always running 120+ apps on my phone and still maintaining well over 70 MB free.Might check out some of her other apps as well - a clearing of the cache / data for those apps may help if they are extremely large also.

Things like lots and lots of SMS stored on the phone will also make that value high - it might be time to clear some of those out as well.
