has anyone edited their bootanimation and shutdownanimation successfully??

or

has anyone removed their bootanimation and shutdownanimation successfully??

i'd like to remove mine to speed up the boot process. can i just rename these .zip files and be okay? if i just rename or remove them, will the phone still boot just fine just without the animation???

thanks in advance

This requires root access.
Get this package and extract it to the root of your SD card.
The animation is removed, only a still AT&T logo is displayed. In addition, the annoying noise is replaced by a blank mp3 file.
Use ES File Explorer to copy the Bootsound.mp3 and bootanimation.zip to the below locations.

/system/media/audio/ui/Bootsound.mp3
/system/media/bootanimation.zip

As far as deleting it, no I haven't. I did change it to the Droid X animation though. Doesn't take as long to boot now and the sound is still the same. App is available on Play Store.

I've been playing with bootanimations lately, but I don't know if you can remove it entirely. Deleting the bootsound.mp3 works on the Avail, as I've done it numerous times.

I inserted an mp3 file of 20 second in Bootsound.mp3 I also used an app to change the annimation to that of the Droid X. Definitely better than the annoying stock sound and ann.

So its OK to delete the sound file with ES, or the entire zip can be deleted?

yes, you can delete both animation zip files.

i have long since deleted both mine and have had no problems at all.

if you delete the bootanimation.zip all that happens is that you get a generic android boot screen that is on the boot.img of the phone itself. [the bootanimation installed by Straight Talk overrides the factory one]

if you delete the shutdownanimation.zip all you will see is a black screen before it shuts down.

and you can replace the bootsound.mp3 with any mp3 as long as you change the name to bootsound.mp3. mine is currently lightsaber sounds from star wars.

I replaced the zip with a zip downloaded with the Boot animation app from the market. Its the Droid X annimation and the boot sound.mp3 I put in is a Transformers sound effect that ends saying "Droid". I changed these purely for customization, and the fact that the at&t annimation is antiquated.
