Root [Merit] Help please, I have moved apps and still no internal room

ladyc222

Newbie
I am new to this stuff and learning. I have rooted, and installed new Rom and I have moved several apps to sd card, installed new ones and put them on sd card and still my internal space shows no more space. I moved Titanium Backup to sd card and now I don't have enought space to move it back so that I can use it. Do I clear cashe or delvik? How do I get more space? I read, and searched for days before posting this. I have ex file explorer and really don't know how to use it.

Are you moving stuff to the actual external SD, or to the internal "SD" which is identified in the file system as "sd0"? The latter won't get you any additional space.
You can create a new backup folder for Titanium specifically on the external sd using the correct file path, but it won't automatically move any existing backups to that folder.
Also since you're rooted you can install Link2SD to move apps to the external SD.

I will try this. Thanks. I did not know there were internal and external sd. See what a newbie I am. But I will learn.

When I go to manage my apps, these files offer me the option to move to phone, so would that not mean they are on the external sd?

if the apps say "Move to phone", then they're on the SD card. if you're running android... i think it's 4.0.4?... or later, they removed the ability to move apps to the external SD card. clearing the dalvik cache really isn't important, since it's on a different partition. not to say don't do it, go for it, but it's not going to solve the problem you're looking at. there are a few other things you can try, though.

make sure you're actually using all the apps that you have installed, too. uninstall the ones you can. remove the blaot if you want to (careful here, may want to make a backup of them if you ever intend to take an OTA and don't want it to fail.)

delete cache data, it tends to get huge if left unattended.

move any media (movies, music, pictures) to the SD card. backups too, if you didn't change the TiBu default folder, or the TWRP/CWM recovery you may have made.

check your downloads, if you've downloaded a bunch of stuff and not deleted it. it's like a second cache almost. i've gotten caught with 1gb+ files in my downloads folder.

also: what phone do you have? it helps people to know what they're working with.

I really appreciate the replys I am getting. I am using a ZTE Merit z990. I have Blue Steel on it using Stayboogys download. I am not sure which files to clean out in the internal storage. I know a lot about pcs but the phone is a new ball game for me. The list I found on here tells what programs to move but I haven't found anything about files yet. I cleared cache and have relieved up some space.

I also didn't have any movies, songs, or pictures. I have downloaded the link2sd as suggest by Fox Mulder and have just got to learn how to use it. I am showing 50.5 free of system rom out of 230MB and 12.5 free on Internal out of 170. My sd card shows 15.5 GB free out of 15.9.

Actually the dalvik cache is using your internal storage. However, clearing it won't help with internal storage because it will rebuild automatically - maybe if there's stuff in there from apps that weren't uninstalled correctly you'll gain a bit, but you can use Titanium's "clean up dalvik cache" feature to deal with that.

Knowing what android version you are using might help (don't know that phone, so the ROM name doesn't tell me much). I'm going to guess 2.3 from the description of the phone (very limited storage), but can't be sure.

App data use internal storage as well as apps, so as well as clearing app caches (different from the dalvik cache) try looking at which apps are using a lot of data (e.g. look at apps sorted by size, then look in more detail at the big ones). Remember to check system apps too, since their data also live in internal storage.

Link2SD is superb and a,"Must Have" app IMHO for rooted phones.Another one is,"Clean Master".I prefer to download .apk versions of these programs so I don't have to waste my limited data download limits.I download them to my laptop and then installed them to my phone(I made a folder on my SD card called APK) and then use

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhythm.hexise.inst

Be careful when downloading .apk files as some links want you to use their download programs like ilivid which are a waste of time and also some down-loaders want to install nasty stuff like the,"Delta Toolbar" which hi-jack browsers.Make a snapshot of your system using one of your anti-spyware/malware programs just in case(Do it now even if you don't download anything).I only download from links that don't want to use download managers.

Yes I have a 2.3 version android. I seldom use my email on my phone and it takes up so much space. would it be ok to remove it. Also would it opperate ok on sd card?

huh, i always thought it was on the system partition, not the data one.

anyway, i expected a newer phone, i have an additional suggestion, knowing that it's 2.3.

move all apps to your phone from Settings -> Applications. then move them to SD using Apps2SD. i seem to remember, from the wayback times, that the first time you moved to SD on 2.3, it didn't move them correctly. from the sounds of it, you may have to start this with one app at a time, assuming it works at all.

also, if you have anything that doesn't actually have app data other than a login (netflix is an example) you can delete them to free up some space for this project and redownload them later.

aesponded. I now have half of internal space free and still have plenty on my sd card available. The apps2sd is a great program as well as the file expert.

That reply got a little jumbled. What I said at the first was thanks to all you guys who responded. Your expertise was what it took for me to fix my phone. Thanks again.
