Root [Merit] Merit stock ROM and sd paritioning

Your rom is on your phone itself not the sd card. If you are referring to the backup nandroid you made then yes. When you repartition an sd for use with link2sd I assume, all the data will be erased from your sd. So copy all the data currently on your card to your computer first then repartition and copy it back to the sd card. Simple most guides for setting up link2sd explain that. Note that this guide recommends fat32 as the format for the second partition that is used with link2sd which is what I did but I would consider using ext2 or ext3 instead the recovery you currently have installed will work with ext if you format to fat32 you will have to download and flash the recovery stayboogy made for me (thanks staboogy) which has fat32 support so that your linked sd partition will be backed up when you use CWM to make a nandroid.

Yeah i did the ext parition. But now link2sd is saying "mount script cannot be created" when i check ext2. Or any option for that matter. The link2sd FAQ says this is due to a "security on" or "s on" on the phone. Link2sd is showing my 2nd parition as not being mounted even though i mounted it in CWM. Any suggestions????
 
Well if that is an issue then you might try reformatting to fat32? I myself didn't have an issue with it. I don't think the merit has s-on although yours could be some new flavor I don't know. I doubt it though. Our of curiosity did you use an sd adapter and card reader to format with? That is key when partitioning the sd card. Otherwise the partition table might not have been written correctly which could cause the error. Also did you remember to always allow link2sd to have root permissions in superuser? On a side note I just switched from superuser to the paid version of SuperSU and it is much much better!


Edit : Disregard most of the above until you try this first. Go into es file explorer and hit the menu button and hit settings now tap the root settings button and then check the first three options and then try to get link2sd to create the mount script. If it is created successfully reboot and then try to link an app to the sd partition.Alternatively you could use a terminal emulator to make the file system writable but using es file explorer will be easier if your not accustomed to using shell commands and if I remember correctly you're not.

Mounting as writeable in ES worked with the ext3 option in link2... Again youve helped me immensly vfv... I cannot thank you enough.
 
I had the same problem. I partitioned the card with a tool "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition" on the computer. The first time I partitioned it, I was using the phone as a card reader and it wouldn't mount. I then used the card reader on my PC and Link2SD automatically mounted it for me!

I only have a 1g it is about as big as the phone can use without moving data to the card. I left the card in my phone & used the PC to partition it.
