Root [Merit] [update] CyanogenMod 7 [update]

thanks to much collaboration with Motorhead and his kernel and cm proprietary work,

and painstakingly evaluating and editing code, building, debugging, rebuilding, leaving the project and coming back to it many, many, many times,

i now have a booting and semi-working, themeable CM7 build.

i'm not releasing a download at this time.

shortly, i will be making my sources available to fellow devs in hopes that we can finally produce what people have been wanting for quite some time now.

This is great to see talented people working together. I gotta stop being so lazy and start tinkering around again. im guessing from the screenshots the radio isn't working? I'd be interested in checking out a half working cm download if you felt like pming me one. I got a spare merit laying around, and you know im not the the type to complain about a build not working. good luck.

okay,

well, motorhead, i didn't have to edit anything to get it to build and boot once i switch to x64 machine.

wifi however never worked with your source, on my end anyway. i still have not got this fixed. i'm sure it's a permissions error.

camera wasn't working, but i have got this fixed sort of.

phone service is not working at all and that's what i'm working on right now.

sensors are somewhat working--i had to change some of the permission xml files in the source to achieve this though.

i'm also in the process of cleaning up the source a little, rebuilding, and testing. once i get a good clean source that boots and the camera and wifi work completely i'll release what i've got. for all general purposes the source is nearly identical to motorhead's right now.

it would be really nice if cw would get on board and help out. didn't he build arearom from source and got the gsm working???

Nope, his AreaROMs are stock based. So far, you and I are the only people to successfully build and boot a source ROM.

You can overlay your own permissions in the device tree so you don't have to touch the source.

in the end, the kernel was all that was needed to build CM7

i'm glad you got a working kernel built. i think i can slowly get the rest of it figured out. using your kernel source now i'm building with my old device files that are based off the blade source. so far, building is going smooth. interested to see the outcome. hardware libraries are what i'm having to work on. .so files need to be built from scratch to actually work instead of copied over from proprietary.

Zajchik has a copy of my 2.3.7 AreaROM to play with, so he's been playing with that :D. From what I've seen personally, CM7 was a touch more stable, but AOSP was more fun to set up :D.

i have CM7 running on the oe kernel dude, with 2g/2g vm split.

yes.

now we can really get to work my friend.

so i have finally gotten both radio and wifi to work

now to debug the camera.

i had to take a break for a month or so and come back to this in order to have a fresh perspective on solving all these problems with the build. so far i'm making swift progress.

still looking for those that want to help build...

Good or bad signal?

just as stock from what i can tell. searches and finds networks, apn working, etc. there's no improvement for signal on the software level possible that i'm aware. it'll never be better than stock in that regard

getting closer and closer.

wifi loads but crashes the rom causing redundant panic reboots

phone service working just fine

camera still not cooperating

audio working just fine

video playback not working

***these are just observations from very limited and quick testing, when release is seen, more debugging will surely be needed***

phone capabilities working, 2G network working as far as i can tell

video playback working

lights working

graphics more stable

touch more responsive

cm screenshot working

cm dsp manager working

all audio working

fm radio settings (dependent on bluetooth that is not working yet)

no camera yet

wifi loading and not crashing rom, no connectivity yet

all sensors not working yet

everything else working as it should be.

wifi is finally set up correctly and scanning and finding networks

however,

it hasn't yet connected to one...

it's getting better by the build.

just for everyone's information, over the last two years, i've built CM7 over 500 times. and a hundred of those just within the last three weeks.

I am very nervous, whether we will soon have a final, version?:dancing2:

even though there is quite a bit working, there are quite a few others that are still buggy.

there will be lots of debugging to be done before a final release. it's in pre-beta phase right now.

beta to be released soon hopefully

awesome work man. it's inspiring me to stop being such a useless douche and start phone tinkering again.

thanks.

trying to get an alpha together for a release this week for everyone to play with

i think she's finally stable enough to let the public finish the final debugging

there are very few "rough edges" as far as functionality is concerned at the moment. the only problem i currently have with the rom is that screen orientation is not working correctly. other than that, she's running smooth as butta
