Help message icon problems (notification bar)

Hi

I am running 2.21 on a HTC desire HD and for some reason my text message icon does not always appear in the notification bar. More often than not it does appear there but there have been many occasions where i go to write a message and find I have one or two messages in my inbox unread!

whats more when i have read and replied to a message i have to manually remove the message icon from the notification bar which is slightly annoying (This happens all the time).

I have googled around and can't seem to find a solution. If it was all the time I would guess it would be a setting but it is so intermittent so im stumped.

any ideas?

Have you checked your notification settings? Have you tried a battery pull?
 
i did a battery pull last week when Camera Zoom FX froze on me for the millionth time (now uninstalled) but it had no effect. The notification settings are fine, all set to correctly.

Like i said its intermittent, and it happened again just now! I am hoping when gingerbread comes along that will sort it out.

It might be time to go into your messaging app in application manager and clear cache and data then reboot. That has a way of washing out intermittent issues such as you're having.
 
a ha good shout, i never realised the message service was an app that could be edited/stopped. I did have a problem with my msn hotmail a while back when it wouldnt delete messages in the browser but clearing the cache worked for that so fingers crossed it will do the same here!

I'll post back if it hasnt worked.

This is a well-known issue with the v2.2.1 firmware and there are many threads here about it. Have you done a forum search? My solution was to install SMS Popup from the Market.
 
I did do a quick search of the forum but didn't find anything for whatever reason. Well i will try that if it continues but i have yet to see it occur again since clearing the cache so i will just have to wait and see.

This is the thread you want. We've all installed a 3rd party SMS App. I'd recommend SMSGo but others have been raving about handcent. HTC are doing nothing about it.

well the clearing the cache solution was short lived! i think i was just catching it in a dry spell rather than it having an effect, GoSMS is installed and working just fine so I'm not going to bother trying others.
