Help Message on startup on nexus 4

When I switched on my nexus 4 today on the screen it said start and showed the android man. I didn't know what to do so re booted it.
It was then fine bit should I be worried?

You probably accidentally rebooted it in fastboot (bootloader) mode by having the volume buttons pressed when you turned it on. It's harmless :-)

PS: this is surprisingly easy to do unintentionally, depending on how you grip the phone.

Thanks went in a blind panic lol :o

I can imagine. At least you didn't press any buttons before rebooting - had you got into recovery mode (android lying "dead" on its back with big exclamation mark above it) you really would have known panic if you didn't know what caused it :-)

I go into panic mode very easily lol
What would I have had to do then?

A simple reboot would have still done the trick in your case since nothing was actually broken.

A lot of Google's "system" screens are intentionally a bit scary for the casual user on both Android and Chromebook devices, usually without any indication of function or available choices. They seem to be designed to discourage meddling and panic anyone accidentally encountering one into doing the obvious thing: reboot :-)
