Help messages always stops

Anyone seem to be having this problem. Just about every time I message someone or receive a text message it unfortunately stops. closes out and I have to reopen my messages again to read or continue on the save draft. This has happened numerous times within one text message. It is extremely annoying and am considering getting rid of the m8. I restarted and shut the phone off completely. Any suggestions?

is it the built in messaging app or a 3rd party messenger like Handcent?

I believe it's the built in app. I never installed anything for text messages.

Ok you can do this, but it may wipe your message history:
Settings -> Apps -> Messaging (or something similar with the same icon) -> Clear Cache.
