Does anyone notice when they have alot of messages - when you make new text messages or just try to browse through old ones it lags alot? Or is it just me?

Well it depends.

I use ChompSMS and I have arround 500 messages.
When I first browse through them it lags quite a bit.
But when I browse through them a second or third time it lags alot less.

Probably because it has to load it in the device's memory.
 
I use Handcent, have over 800 messages and have no lag at all. Flies through the menu's and texts.
 
Is it possible to run the normal messages along side of something like handcent. And is it a good idea to periodically delete my messages?
 
Eh, I've a few thousand and it's not that bad. Choppy when I flick through down the contacts in chompSMS, but I dunno, I expect it to be. It's not a frustrating lag.
 
Well I do have over 10k messages so I'm not sure if it's expected to be more laggy now. Especially when I've sent a message and wait for it to appear on screen then hit the back button it's loading for like 5-6 seconds.
 
Yeah the stock HTC messaging app will lag when opening large threads. Handcent is much quicker navigating them, but I prefer the stock App. In the settings you can set a maximum message limit per thread. This is a good idea.
