It's an issue with the GB update, the only known fix so far is to install a 3rd Party message app like Go SMS or Handcent.

Downloading Go SMS, but im a little concerned about the duplicate messages, resending/deleting of old messages that others have reported.
That was only with the Orange GB Update as far as I was aware? Or are you talking about specific issues with Go SMS?
I've been using it for a few weeks with no issues. Just make sure you turn off notifications in the standard messaging app and it should be fine.

I did this when I installed on the wife's new Wildfire S (I use it on my DHD), then found a GoSMS setting which does this for you ...
