Root Messaging Area Code Drops (CM10 on S3)

Yesterday my friend rooted both my and my wife's SIII (AT&T) with Cyanogen Mod 10.
My phone works perfectly fine. My wife's works fine as well EXCEPT one issue.
When she chooses a contact to send a message to from the native messaging app, the area code drops off and her message fails (for example, if the phone number is 1 718 123 4567, the message would be sent to 1 123 4567 - the 718 drops).
If she sends the message from the contact list, it's fine. This only happens when she tries to send a new message to a contact from the messaging app.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you!

I think I may have accidentally stumbled across the solution through a trial and error process. I simply removed the "1" in the beginning of each number (1 718 123 4567 -> 718 123 4567) and everything works fine!
If you're having the same problem and this solves it, please mark as helpful/let me know so that I know it's a universal solution!
