Help Messaging & Contacts Problem Plus An Automatically Unmounting SD Card Problem

Paully D

Lurker
Hi all,

I very recently got a Huawei Ascend Y300 after being very impressed with the G300 and there's a couple of things that I am having difficulty with.

Firstly, if I text for example 'Mary' at 087 1234567 the message will send but when she responds it will come back to me with no contact name and +353 87 1234567 as the number. The number coming back with the +353 code is causing my phone to think it's an unrecognized number messaging me.

This is not an issue when I'm texting someone whose number I know, but pretty annoying when a contact whose number I'm not familiar with messages me as I'm left to trawl through my phone book trying to see the number without the +353 to determine who sent the message or to text back asking who it is.

Is there any solution to this short of going through my entire phone book and changing each contacts number to that with the +353 code in front of it? Or why is this even happening in the first place? When I used the G300 for example, numbers would just appear with the contacts name regardless of whether it was just 087 1234567 or +353 87 1234567 that the contacts number was saved as.

Secondly, I seem to be having a problem whereby my external SD card keeps unmounting itself. On intermittent occasions, when I go into it I'll be met with the ''no pictures available'' message and have to mount my SD card again to get it working. Is there a way around this?

I have just about run out of patience or being able to think of possible solutions at this stage so any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

1) I assume that you're in Ireland, and the phone is prefixing the country code to the number. It's annoying, but it's being done that way now, and some phones don't have an "ignore the following country code in looking up contacts" function. Adding the +353 won't always help, because some telephone companies (landline and/or cellular) don't send the country code and some do. It'll eventually get straightened out, but for now there's nothing we users can do. We've had a lot of people from the US complaining about the +1 causing the same problem. (Even my landline won't return calls, because it won't add the 1 in front of an out-of-area number, which is required in the US.)

2) You said that you got the phone recently, so it's most likely still under warranty. It may be a defect with the phone. Mount the card in a computer (you may need a card reader) and run h2testw on it to determine if the card is bad. If it's not, have the phone repaired/replaced under warranty.
