Help Messaging contacts

Is there any way to prevent my Gmail contacts (email address only) from appearing in the contacts list in the stock Messaging app?

After looking at my wife's phone, it looks like you can change the settings under contacts.

Contacts>Options>More>Display Options> Then you can choose contacts to display....you can select or deselect Gmail contacts.
