Help Messaging Corrections

Hello everyone - My name is Patsy - I live in Washington State - and I am a new smart phone user. My sweet husband got me one for my birthday in January - this year.

I am here and joined this forum because I am sure I will have more to learn and share in the future.

Right now I have a messaging question. My son and I have the same keyboard (handcent sms) but I don't have what he has and it is such a simple editing tool. I just don't know how to get it.

Here is what it is: When the message is typed and you realize at the end that you made a mistake, on his phone, he is able to press onto the screen and a circle appears that hovers over each word, that circle has a line in it that moves from letter to letter until you get to the letter you want to change or the place you want to input another letter or word.

How do I get this? Does anyone know? His phone is older than mine and that is the only difference, it is an Incredible just like mine.

I don't have to have that exact keyboard, but would like and easier way to scroll backward to edit letters/words.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance - Patsy

Using the optical track pad at the bottom of the phone is the easiest way to scroll through letters.

Also, under your menu> settings> about phone> software information> what android version do you have?

If you have the htc droid incredible 1, at the bottom of the phone (right below where the menu/home/back/search buttons are) you should have a small circular button that is also a trackpad. If you don't have that button you don't have an htc droid incredible 1, and have either the incredible s or incredible 2.

You also don't have the latest version of android that your phone should have self updated to by now. That's why you don't have the same keyboard as your son. You may want to go into the menu >settings> about phone and check for software updates.

Silly me - I found the small circular button. I thought all it did was camera work...oh well, I am learning.

I went to the menu/settings/about phone/check software updates and everything is updated - still don't know what setting I am missing to get the circled word I'm looking for.

Thank you for your help.

Need to know what android version that you are currently running....

But the trackball can be used to easily move the cursor around by gliding your finger across it. (much easier than the method you are looking for in my opinion)
