Help messaging question

I was wondering if I could delete the factory messaging app and still be able to use the Handcent SMS app. It seems like they are tied together and it's kind of annoying both of then store the same texts, but if you delete out of one then it's gone from the other also. Anyone know if this is possible?

From what I've seen (based on backing up and restoring texts using Titanium Backup), neither program actually stores the text messages. They just download into and read from a separate common database that stores the texts. So whatever your program is (stock, HandCent, GoSMS), it all uses the same storage.

Exactly you just have to disable all the settings in the stock messaging app so you dont get double notifications.

Go into menu > settings > applications > manage applications > menu > filter "all." Once the list fully loads, click the stock messaging app ("messaging") and clear cache and data, then reboot your device and set up your 3rd party app.

Handcent is a front end for the stock app. It won't work properly if you remove the stock app completely. At least, that's what I've read repeatedly on these forums.
