If I am not mistaken, this will move most of your data off the MetroPCS network at which point you'll be using data from Verizon's network directly. Be advised that you may run into problems with your carrier if you do this, up to and including cancellation of your contract. They do monitor your network/data usage quite closely.

yes and metro pcs does not have a contract this is for metro users and no contract users so you are free if you use Verizon you will be in trouble with has a contract so you can do anything with your phone and i am not saying data roaming on just saying auto mode so you are good and this is not going to affect your bill my bill is the same

and see you have the s2 (good phone) but not on a no contract carrier so you my have at@t t-mobile sprint which all have contracts so you can not do this on those carriers and Verizon but there tied with the DROID Phones and others but not the s2 so you are still good if you got metro pcs and others and just to add auto mode is using all networks including metro pcs-sprint-Verizon-and other cdma networks not just Verizon yes sprint is cdma

I tried this and I still have no data signal, I live in Dallas area and off of 635 and Beltline where they say it is in the "best coverage range" check my prl and it's 3026. I've done 3 diff factory resets got another phone (same model) but still having the same issue. I have 4 grey bars with no 3G or 1X signal next to them.

I drive along 635 almost every day from Mesquite to Coppell, and have great 3G signal. I also head up along the George Bush toll way quite often and get good signal there as well. I'm very surprised you don't get 3G.

If you've got no bars and neither 3G nor 1x indicators, check in Settings and make sure you haven't either turned on Airplane mode or turned off data somehow. I wouldn't expect there to be no signal at all in your part of the DFW metroplex. If neither of those settings is the case, I would suggest taking the phone back to a Metro store and complaining.

I don't see why this would be a problem, I've had my phone set on auto since day 2. However this in no way makes a metro phone any where near as fast as Verizon, At&t, etc.

As far as it being against any rules or anything it is presented as an option by metro, they control how the menus operate on their systems and are well aware of this and according to the ones I spoke to it isn't a big deal.

1. What does Verizon have to do with Metro in the S.F. Bay Area ?

2. How may one determine which network is being used ?

3. Confusing. Would Verizon bill Metro for this use ?

4. Has anyone else tried this setting and found it faster ?

Appleuser, first off Metro shares towers with Verizon in the Bay Area, I have gotten this message a few times when service was down: Verizon towers unable to make connection. I use the Admire, rooted running Admiral Beast theme, as my only phone.
Even knowing that Metro uses those towers doesn't help with the fact that our service is much slower and less consistant than those using Verizon as their carrier
As to the answer for #'s 2&3, my guess is that we'll never know this answer. As far as #4 I've been using the automatic setting continously since the first few days of owning this phone. The reason is that the auto setting is more reliable and stable and a tad quicker.

they cant be watchin ^that^ closely, im rooted and tether my laptop wirelessly continuously, roughly 15hrs total a day.. with all the data up/downloaded daily, i would not have service anymore.. just my $o.o2 ..
