Metro PCS - Major Changes

Another extra GB for hotspot is a nice bonus.
So true. I'm on the road a lot, and WiFi is soooo flakey...fairly irritable. So many places that Advertise it are So unreliable...the Power outlets don't work or the router is down or it's in a bad location( malfunctions everytime microwave used) or at&t hosting software is flakey or your connection logged off every xx minutes or peak usage slows things to a crawl...or mgmt does on purpose for turnover...or workers without mgr do it so they can leave earlier.

Introducing Data Maximizer™
Starting November 19th, we’re optimizing video streaming for your mobile devices, so you’ll get more video for your data when you use your phone as a mobile hotspot. This will happen automatically, with no additional charge and no action required.

What is Data Maximizer?

Data Maximizer will help you stream video smarter – allowing your high speed data to last up to three times longer when streaming video. Data Maximizer works by automatically streaming video at resolutions that are ideal for smartphone screens, when connected to a cellular network. This technology allows you to watch DVD quality video for great viewing on your mobile device and stream up to three times longer without running out of high speed data. Data Maximizer does not affect video streaming experience when your device is connected via Wi-Fi.

− Is Data Maximizer only available on new rate plans?

No, all data rate plans will include Data Maximizer starting 11/19/15.

− Can I turn it on/off whenever I want?

Yes, you can turn Data Maximizer on/off whenever you want. You choose your video experience. If you turn off Data Maximizer, video streaming will no longer be optimized to DVD-quality experience (typically 480p or better) resulting in your 4G LTE data being consumed faster.

− How do I turn it on/off?

**Important – this cannot be done until 11/19 when Data Maximizer is placed on your plan***

The best way to turn Data Maximizer On and Off for Android users is through the MyMetro app. FIRST make sure you have the latest version of MyMetro on your phone. Starting 11/19, go to the Google play store and search for the MyMetro app. Download the new version of the MyMetro App. Open up the app > go to view data usage> scroll down and uncheck the box Data Maximizer is on so the feature shows Data Maximizer OFF. If you want to turn it back on you can check the box at any time.

Other ways to turn Data Maximizer On/Off are though My Account on metropcs.com, visiting a store or calling customer care at 888-8metro8 (888-863-8768) or *611 from your MetroPCS phone.

− I see you launched new rate plans. Will my rate plan features change?

  • $30 rate plan – will now include Data Maximizer
  • $40 rate plan – will now include Data Maximizer; you will automatically be moved to our new $40 plan which will give you an extra 1GB of high-speed data and Music Unlimited by January
  • $50 rate plan – will now include Data Maximizer; you will automatically be moved to our new $50 plan which will give you an extra 1GB of high-speed data and Music Unlimited by January
  • Unlimited plans – will now include Data Maximizer; you will get an extra 2GB of high-speed data in your mobile hotspot bucket. That’s a total of 8GB of Mobile Hotspot data at up to 4G LTE speed. All at no extra charge and with no action required.

What is Music Unlimited?
MetroPCS is setting music free. Stream as much music as you want on your smartphone from top streaming services, including Pandora, iHeartRadio, Apple Music, Rhapsody, Slacker, Spotify and Milk Music - and it won’t count towards your 4G LTE data plan. Data charges do not apply!

How does Music Unlimited work?
It couldn’t be easier! Just activate on MetroPCS new $40, $50 and $60 rate plans. Music Unlimited is included in the new $40, $50 and $60 rate plans at no extra charge. Stream as much music as you want on your smartphone from top streaming services, including Pandora, iHeartRadio, Apple Music, Rhapsody, Slacker, Spotify and Milk Music - and it won’t count towards your 4G LTE data plan.

Who can get Music Unlimited?
New and existing customers who activate on MetroPCS’ new $40, $50 and $60 rate plans.

Will you add more streaming providers over time?
Absolutely! Any lawful and licensed streaming music service can work with us for inclusion in this offer, which is designed to benefit our MetroPCS customers. And we want to hear from you! Who do you think we should add next? Vote at #MusicUnlimited and be heard!

I want to know if my favorite application is eligible to be added, how do you define ‘Streaming Music Services’?
Commercial music streaming services provide licensed content from various sources. Sources may include some or all of the following platforms: platforms serving digital rights management-restricted content from record labels, aggregated live radio platforms, or other commercial platforms offering streaming music content.
Excluded services include but are not limited to:

· Music streaming sources from private or unlicensed sources.

· Video content

What if my audio app also streams video – is the video streaming also free?
This offer is available for audio streaming only. Other content types, including video streaming, from any application is excluded from this offer.

Will my music streaming be slowed to 2G speeds after reaching a certain data limit?
No. Music Unlimited is just that, the freedom to stream all of the music you want to your smartphone without affecting your 4G LTE data bucket while you are on our blazing fast network. If you reach your 4G LTE data limit through other means your on-network data will be slowed to 2G speeds but music streaming through included services will not be slowed down.

Does Music Unlimited apply to music streamed on tethered devices or through a hotspot?
Music Unlimited provides unlimited music streaming on your device while on our network. Streaming music via a Smartphone Mobile Hotspot (tethering) will count against your 4G LTE data and is not covered by this offer.

Can I stream music for free when I am not in the United States?
If you have Mexico Unlimited on your plan the music streaming services that are part of Music Unlimited do not count against your data allotment while traveling in Mexico. International availability of streaming services does vary, so make sure to check with your streaming service provider before you go.

how will this effect the BYOD data if at all?

It shouldn't...in fact Metro is constantly updating the My Metro app EDIT VISUAL VOICEMAIL APP I MEANT to resolve issues that get reported on byods...apart from things like some models can't tether...due to software issue...nothing being disallowed by metro though...that I've ever seen.

JUST iN CASE HOWEVER...
BYOD and the grandfathered $50 Unlimited Promo do NOT mix...will lose the plan automatically!

It reads to me like you will automatically go on the new $40 plan with more data.
I apologize if im still misunderstanding your question.

If you mean accumulated/unused rollover data bucket....that'd be tmo only

i am on the $40 plan.

i currently only get 500Mbs of high speed data for a BYOD on this plan. My question is..since they are giving us an extra GB...will i get more then 500 MBs of high speed data or will it stay the same.

YES you are not only getting more data, you won't have to do anything.
It will happen automatically for everyone.
(I know that this" automatic "has not always been so...one notable exception was the last unlimited $50 promo.)

Sorry for late answer...í fell asleep.

Latest happenings re metro posted announcements :

As of 1Am ET no changes
As of 9:34 am...
No My Metro app update in Playstore( also checked if had been updated during the night/morning. btw Visual Voicemail updated earlier yesterday)
However in My Metro there's new Data Maximizer entry @ Off setting( I'm on Unlimited Plan).
Nothing re Music Freedom yet.

I'm surprised T-mobile is also letting MetroPCS customers have free music streaming, that's a nice feature for a MVNO to have. :thumbsupdroid:

Reduces video to 480p and might also compress it to save bandwidth. Starts later this week.
That's because MetroPCS isn't a mvno. It's a fully owned subsidiary of Tmobile that's why. But word is the actual mvnos like Harbor mobile supposed to get music freedom also.

i am on the $40 plan.

One more thought....check ur plan details in my metro app the next day or two our three.

i dont understand this data maximizer thing...how does it detect that you are watching a video? i mean, if i am watching youtube via firefox beta instead of the youtube app, can they still detect its a video and drop the quality down to 480p?

I don't think so...it's a predetermined list of apps.
It's supposed to be a user bonus that we can turn on and off at will.
This would allow someone on a not- unlimited plan to stretch their data further...stream faster at times....

And who knows when YouTube will be fully functional with this...
