Metro PCS Plans

I am new here, but want to learn about Metro's phone plans. I bought a Esteem not too long ago and the guy from Metro said I "HAD" to use the $60 plan and think he was full of it. Looking at their website under plans there are a lot of things I don't want and don't need...Rhapsody for one. The $50 looks a lot better for me. Most of my internet traffic is off my router. Anyone know?

I went for the 50$ plan as well... it has a monthly cap, but I never reach it, even though I browse the web somewhat daily...

Try to avoid having it activated at a store, they are such scammers... Say no to any little extra subscription they try to tell you to get, and do not buy accessories there, ever.

Activate your phone over the line by dialing *228, it' fairly easy to activate yourself, and you save the extra 10 bucks they charge you for doing it themselves.

If you are able to buy the phone elsewhere (not from Metro), do so... they overcharge a 20+ fee on taxes alone, and the rebates is kind of a hassle. The one year warranty covers exchanges, so as soon as you get it...

Use it A LOT, trying to find random reboots, glitches, or excessive lag (even though an update is coming)... if so, simply exchange it. They shouldn't charge you for replacing it, doesn't matter if you pay insurance or not ( I will never pay insurance with Metro, but that's me).

For me it was a hit or miss, because my first Esteem was pretty laggy, even though I didn't add any apps on it, or even after rooting and freezing crap...So I exchanged it, and noticed far less lag on the replacement.

The 50$ plan will be best for you if you won't use data as much.

I did buy it from a Metro store and should have bought it elsewhere after reading posts here. I've been with Metro several years and no, I don't buy any accessories from them. I guess that's why my bill is higher this month. Supposed to be $60, but got a text stating my next bill is $78 and some change. They didn't charge me an activation fee when I bought the phone. I agree, I will never pay insurance either. I have always been protective of my phones, but that insurance is ridiculous and have never bought into it. Time to change my plan.

I had two LG Optimus on the $50 plan. I bought an Esteem for myself, letting the wife keep her Optimus for now. Metro transferred me to the $60 unlimited plan. After a month I transferred back to the $50 LTE plan. I do not come close to using 1GB of the kind of data they measure. Saved $10 per month.

You can download a free data measurement app to keep track if you want, or you can sign in to your Metro account online and they will show you your data useage (of the type they measure).

My data usage, according to Metro was 0%. Yet I had used about 400MB on their network, according the the data measurement app I downloaded from the Android market.

Change over to the $50 plan and just keep checking your account online.

The service really is different in every store and state... for example, here, they used nice play of words, and charged my friend extra a month for services she didn't ask for... for example, she had to may extra for "Metro Backup, and some ringtone bundle. She didn't ask for it, but they mentioned that to her, and she accepted not knowing they would be a monthly fee extra.

But like I said, not all stores are like that. Also, the phone 1 year warranty has nothing to do with the insurance they give you. Personally, in the past, and now, I was able to exchange the phone for free various times within that year warranty (going to a corporate store and demanding it almost, because they would deny it sometimes). The experience is different to other people, but if you take care of your phone, it's unlikely you'll need to bother them, unless they really do give you a damaged phone (my first Esteem was pretty bad, the second one after the exchange was pretty good so far).

I pay 50$ plus 10$ for unlimited call and texting internationally, because I really do need it. So I pay 60U$D a month, not a single cent more.

You can customize your plan by going online and setting up your account or talking to a rep dialing *228.

PS: Also, when I say "demanding it" I don't mean to ever be rude to them, even though some of the people there would really try to avoid and help you with legitimate problems. Always be nice to people, and curse inside your head I say.
