Metro Technician said I have to turn wifi off to get 4G service. T/F ?

I've had my Motion about a week, and have never seen 4G service. Three calls to Metro to try to get it fixed.

The last time they elevated the case, and the technician said that to get 4G service, I have to go into settings and turn wifi off. That it has to be set to one or the other.

Is it true that I have to turn wifi off in-order to get 4G? How come? And, by the way, even when I turned wifi off, I did not see 4G.

You only turn WiFi off when you want to get mobile data when your connected to a WiFi network. When its not it goes to mobile data, 1x/3g/4g, even when WiFi is on.

Did you get 1x/3g ?
If so, your not in 4g coverage.

when you activated your phone did you give them the numbers of the sim card in the phone metro is real stupid just so you know you have to tell them what to do

OK, lets back track on this one...I am sitting at home, with my LG Motion, on the display I can switch between 4G or WiFi. As said above you can use one or the other NOT both  (makes sense). However, and I mean this politely, if you got a crap signal even turning WiFi off YOU WON'T GET 4G. So check your signal, go to the nearest town or whatever and see what you get then.
Afternote: not everyone is in a 4G area, sucks I know

If there's WiFi available, your phone defaults to that for its network.

The reasoning is simple: its faster, better on battery, and most importantly it prevents network congestion by passing off your data to some other connection ;)

They tell me that I am in a 4G area. But I'm starting to doubt stuff.

let me give everyone a helpful peice of advice. Each representative in tech support (not only metro) has different knowledge. Some tech's are much wiser than others. If you are not hearing what you want to hear, hang up and call them back. I know it sounds weird but trust me, give them a few calls and they are going to resolve it for you.

You will not get 4G in 4G coverage if ICC card is not activated

when activating, you would have had to give them 2 numbers from the box...make sure the card is correctly positioned and installed as well.

Its the little micro-card that came attached to a larger card in the box.

If you've done all that..ignore me

i use to see 3g when 4g would dissappre back on the indulge.

but when i loose 4g on the motion it goes down to 1x or EV.

i miss the little 3g icon :/

dont quote me but i think ev is like 3g for metro when it pops up on mine the net is not that slow 1x is though

Thanks. No I am going to listen to you and the others. This is my first 4G phone, and I just followed the instructions from the company. Funny thing is no one from Metro has mentioned about the number on the Sim card, and here on the forum people are much more in the know.

Will do this today.

No the tech is full of crap I leave my WiFi on all the time if i'm out of range for any open WiFi signals my Data 4G comes on all by itself the only time I would have to turn off Wifi in order to get the 4G data to come on is if I'm already connected to a Wifi and I don't want to be Then I would either have to turn off wifi or disconnect from the wifi router plus I just tested my theory out after reading what you said the tech person said to you and I was right Wifi does not have to be turned off in order for data 4G to work.

if wifi is connected it sure does have to be off. Now if wifi is on but not connected you might be correct, I dont ever leave mine own except when using it as it drains the battery esp if no wifi network can be found. This goes on any device, wifi, when connected, is the data connection.

To the OP, you might want to check your area to make sure you have 4g coverage. ;)
