Samsung Conquer 4G spotted

Ready for another 4G handset, MetroPCS fans? Just a few short months after MetroPCS took the wraps off of the LTE-enabled LG Esteem, it looks like the carrier may soon be unveiling another 4G handset, this time from Samsung. As some of you Sprint folk may have noticed, the device you're staring at above is a rebranded version of the Samsung Conquer 4G. Rather than packing WiMAX connectivity, though, this new model will feature support for Metro's LTE network.
The Conquer 4G was labeled as a nice mid-range smartphone when it hit Sprint earlier this year, and the device should fill a similar role when it hits MetroPCS, coming in as a (hopefully) cheaper 4G alternative to the aforementioned Esteem. It's kind of a bummer that Metro's version of the handset appears to include Samsung's TouchWiz UI while the Sprint variant offered a mostly clean build of Gingerbread, but that shouldn't be too big of an issue for most buyers. No word yet on when this handset might be launching.

As a variant of the Samsung Conquer, expect it to sport, just like its Sprint cousin, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 3.5-inch HVGA display, 3.2-megapixel camera, and a 1.3-megapixel webcam. It should be powered by Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread and, while the Sprint Conquer 4G has WiMAX support, the Tikal will offer 4G LTE connectivity-support. If the recently announced LG Esteem 4G LTE goes for $249 with slightly better specs, expect the Samsung SCH-R940 to be cheaper, hopefully below $200 like currently the Samsung Galaxy Indulge.

anyone know if there's a shot in hell that Metro might upgrade and surprise the masses with a phone running on Ice Cream Sandwich? I want, I want, I want!!!

I seriously doubt that will happen. I'd be surprised if Metro puts out anything that comes with ICS until well after multiple high-dollar phones are out with ICS as standard, and that is likely to take a while in and of itself.
