glass broke dropped on a big screw in the ground face first. now screen is acting funny sometimes near the crack. sometimes it wont register the touch properly.

do i need a digitizer or just glass?

some guy is selling screen and digitizer and glass for sprint s3 on craigslist can i use it?

should i do it myself? im pretty handy with stuff like this

i have insurance too. wat do u guys think?

shabby got his screen fixed for $180 from samsung. and yes sprint screen will work remember the only difference in our variant of the gs3 is mostly software wise but components inside and out are the same.

i would not trust teh sprint one to work, plenty of people have tried it on their att and other variants and found it is actually smaller (due to not needing a sim card etc). i paid 180 for samsung to do it and i dont regret that.

when the you hit teh power button does the screen light up and fully work? if so then its just a digitizer and that can be swapped for under 50 bucks.

if it is just the digitizer those are 30 bucks on amazon and are universal on all models. its the front housing that is different. unfortunatly the digitizer is glued on and can be a massive pita to get on/off. there are several videos on how to do it on youtube but if you dont feel comfortable there is prolly a cell phone repair shop nearby that will do it for 40 or so plus parts. obviously that would be your cheapest method.

most insurance policies dont tend to cover broken screens/glass, so if you wanted to go that route i would prolly report it lost and pay the premium. then youd have a bad esn cracked screen sgs3 you could sell and try to recoup some losses

just my 2 cents obviously :)

i was told the insurance deductible is $180 replacment from samsung is $180 so basically same cost but let me check deductibles again to be sure.

Edit nope seem morgan was right it is $130 which is a better deal than paying $180 from samsung.

ya i was worried insurance may not cover. thanks im going to check around my area for a repair.
but anyone know how long it takes for the phone to come?

guys on ebay there is no distinction between models for the glass cover. they say itll fit us cellular verizon and sprint. i have a feeling they are b.s. or something

as i said before teh front glass is universal, the screen is universal however the 3 parts are heavily glued together. if you dont mind replacing it yourself Amazon.com: For Samsung Galaxy I939 I535 SIII S3 White / LCD Screen Front Lens Glass Cover: Cell Phones & Accessories for 35 bucks you get almost everything needed.

on the other hand if your screen needs to be replaced youll need to buy something like this Amazon.com: Original Genuine OEM White Full LCD +Touch Screen Digitizer Assembly Flex Cable For Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 att i747 Sprint L710 Verizon i535 T-Mobile T999 Korea i939: Cell Phones & Accessories and still do all the heavy work (its why most people just buy the front assembly (which matters what model it came from). if you buy the front assembly you need a verizon, us cellular, metropcs, or cricket sgs3 front assembly :)

so what it basically boils down to is if your screen is broken or not, because the cheapest way to get your device working again would be to pay samsung at that point. the cheapest way to get a sgs3 again would be to file a claim as it lost. this is all assuming your screen is busted, if not then swapping the glass is your best bet :)

As he said, the glue is the hardest part of the process. It's time consuming and you have to be very careful as to not break the lcd. It can be done though, I've done several all of which was a learning process each time.

Then if your lucky enough to not mess anything up while taking the digi off the lcd, you have to worry about NOT getting any dust or debris on the lcd when putting the digi back on. You wont see it with the screen on but you will when it's off. Maybe this wont bother you but it aggravates the holy piss out of me. So it's best to go the same route as a screen protector and take a hot shower first to clean your body of dust and particles and then put them together in the cleanest room possible. But if seeing the dust when the screen is off doesn't bother you then ignore what I said and just do it.

mine its broken from the corner but im okay my case covers the broken part and the digitizer works fine im having problems
