Root [MetroPCS/CDMA] Very Important! backup nv Before flashing!

Could the nv lost issue be a twrp issue? It happened to me twice both times on twrp, has never happened using cwd and I flash the same way on both. Can anyone confirm they have lost there nv flashing with cwm?

Nope your fine aslong as your phone still has its working nv file. Which if it didn't you wouldn't have a working phone. Just follow steps on first post and back it up.

Hey fellas nice to see you guys discussing this important step in properly backing up your phones important information. I myself am trying to make a back up and I cant seem to get it to work. I type su and then enter and type reboot nvbackup. I have word based input method selected but for some reason it just wont work. It says path not accessed or something along those lines. Is there something I have to change in settings of the emulator or my developer options??? Do I need busy box or any other sort of tool???

Edit: It actually says operation not permitted.........anyone have any idea whats going on?

Have you confirmed root is working? What recovery do you have?

Oh yea im rooted and I have cwm recovery. Ive flashed cyanogen mod before but I learned about this nv so id like to back it up incase something goes wrong. I want to flash 4.2.1 but I want that nv file backed up. Ive flashed before with no issues but that doesn't mean something couldn't happen. Rather be safe then sorry.

Nvm my man I got it. Superuser was set to allow everything. So I changed it to show me the prompt and when it popped up to allow.or deny I hit allow and punched in the code and it took me to the samsung screen and showed the blue lettering and booted right back up. It didnt even take a bit. So I believe im all good. Thanks for the help though.:)

great job bud sorry i was away most of the day i usually peek in the forum alot more than a teenage girl changes her facebook status on facebook but lately been busy. anyways yes this will save your life!

I've had my nv backed up for a while and today i noticed that i couldn't get a 4g signal, even on stock. So, i tried to restore nvrestore but the device just stays at the boot screen. Now, i found out that my cousins esteem also did not have 4g today, so i t must have been a network issue. What should i do now? I tried to go into twrp with volume up power and home combo but it wont take me there.
Edit: never mind i got it to work(i was holding the combo for too long :p. Im now feeling kind of paranoid, so could i backup my nv again? after making sure 4g starts working again of course.

No need once is enough it gets stored to nand. I would like to also add nvrestore would probably be best used when your phone loses its imei/ESN number usually 4g comes and goes and people freak out.like today i was in a part of Florida called Odessa and 4g was very playing Houdini on me. So had 1x in a building for a few hours. But once i was outside i had my 4g. Bottom line only nvrestore if your missing your number and min and imei/esn.

"Playing Houdini" LOL. Thats a perfect way to describe our 4G LTE!!

charge your creditcard so does that mean they shut your whole service or are u saying they just cut your 4g? never seen a case like that usually your 4g service comes with with your normal service either you have a plan that includes 4g or dont. once your uiccid is register to your account that uicc/simcard is activated for u to use and metro being a prepaid service that means you get pre-charged for your monthly service 30 days ahead each month. not sure if i understand you but never the less yea get that taken care of.

I couldn't get any calls or any 4g so basically i had zero service. When i do call metro, they just like derp, we messed up, sorry for forgetting to charge for the montly service. Now, my battery is dead, and so is my mother's. Weird thnig is her's isnt even an android.

it bricks my phone whenever im on morph rom and try to do a restore :/

trust me if your phone was bricked you wouldnt be able to even turn it on it would be like trying to turn on a phone without a battery, so if ur screen never turns on and you never see the samsung logo thats bricked. you must be either boot looping or stuck on samsung logo. also i hate to say this i cant help any1 using us cellular roms/firmware not beacause i dont want to but you guys are using software developed for another phone similiar to ours but still different in their own ways and then expect to get the same technical support from a metro pcs subforum. I'll help as much as possible but i cant relate any issues i have on a metro pcs gs3 rom compared one made for another phone if u know what i mean. In conclusion not sure why its not working on a rom made for another variant of the gs3 which isnt ours.
