Root MetroPCS..hello..hello...goodbye

For the LG Esteem:

To rename or replace with your own custom sound the boot up mp3 file "MetroPCS...hello...hello...Wireless for all"

1. Root

2. Have Root Explorer. When you run Root Explorer, make sure you "allow" it superuser permissions. Enable R/W so you can make changes.

3. Go to /system/sounds/power/MetroPCS_PowerOn.mp3. < That is the location of the annoying sound file.

4. Rename or delete. It will disable the MetroPCS Startup sound.

Just by renaming that file, then you will have silence at bootup. You don't have to replace the mp3 file with anything. The animation will still show, but there won't be sound clip playing while the phone is booting up. Nobody needs to know your business.

5. Or to put your own choice of audio file in its place, you have to move an MP3 file to the same location NAMED EXACTLY: MetroPCS_PowerOn.mp3

==========

What I did was rather than just deleting the "MetroPCS_PowerOn.mp"3 file, I replaced it with a 1 second silent audio file named the same. Download the 1 second version from here and just re-name it and send it to yourself, then place it in the correct folder.

To make it easier just rename it, Delete the N of the "on" part and it will no longer play it

I tried to change the start up tone with another mp3 file but when I restart the phone the new mp3 file doesnt sound, I named it just like you said MetroPCS_PowerOn.mp3, please help.

Make sure you typed it as the exact same name. That means everything has to be exact.

Did anyone happen to notice the Verizon shutdown audio file they accidentally left in there ? LOL

You are rooted, right? That's step 1.

Then in Root Explorer, you go into that folder and up at the top of the screen, it will say something like "382.72MB used, 585.55MB free, r/o" R/O means read only. Over beside that you click "Mount R/W" (means activate read/write capabilities)

when you click on the "Mount R/W", then the top of the screen changes to something like "382.72MB used, 585.55MB free, r/w" -- and over beside that then "Mount R/O". Don't click that! You want to stay r/w so you can change that file.

If you can't "Mount R/W", then you are not rooted.

I also change the metro bootanimation for the decepticon one floating in the web, and I also hated the shutdown logo, the metropcs logo with black background, and change it for a custom one.
