MetroPCS Network Status App

Since getting my Samasung Galaxy Indulge I have experienced data service outages almost on a daily basis. When contacting MetroPCS about it they rarely even know whats going on. I can check online and see many people having the same issues durring the same times all over the US. MetroPCS reps at local stores are not even notified of outages or scheduled maintenance and try to diagnose phones as being defective when that is not the case.

I have decided to take this issue into my own hands and create a simple app that people can load on their phone to to let everyone know what the current networks status is for each state in the USA.

Please note that when your phone is connected via WiFi, only service outages can be reported.

The status page can be viewed both from the app and from your PC. From a PC, visit the following URL http://androidinvasion.us/MetroPCS/status.php

While I really like the idea, most people that would want to use this app will not have data access to run it.

Can I suggest writing a desktop app for this? That, I suspect, would be used more.

great idea but will you app record when the phone is unable to get online access and then when it does it will create a report and send it out. I downloaded it and installed it but can you give a break down on how it work or what you expect to get out of the app.

hope you are keeping a log. to show Metro ok so how does this app work. Please give a little more detail. I like your idea for the app but i just dont understand how this will help.

many people spend a lot of time trying to get there phones working during metro outages. They think it could be there phone and many even go into metropcs stores to find out whats going on. But metro stores don't even get notified of outages so the employee's at the store normally just tell them to wait an hour and come back or tell them they will order a replacement and to come back in a week.

The whole point of this is to give everyone someplace that they go to and verify that the MetroPCS data network is having issues and its not just their phone acting up.

I added an outage log to the bottom of the status page for everyone to be able to refer back to.

OK, I just updated the app.
If you have already downloaded the app, please download it again to get the new version.

New Version Change Log:
Changed Lebel to read Selected State instead of Current State.
Added app version info
App now remembers the last state you selected so you dont have to keep selecting a state.
Added ability for app to let you know when news versions are available.
Added download of new app version by clicking button in app.
Fixed a bug where some states like New York could report outages but not report when network is back up.

Nice one, Mikey! This is quicker and easier to report and/or check than logging in here to Androidforums (a/k/a "Tier 3 MetroPCS Support" ;))!

Just uploaded a quick update to fix the misspelling on the View MetroPCS Status button.
If you already have version 0.20 the app should show the new update then next time you run it.

Great one Mikey. One thing though, in the log file, I think instead of just reporting outages, you should also, on the same line, report when the network is back up, so you can see an approximate length for outages.
Just for statistics sake.... :)

Can this application run at start up and in the background, and maybe automatically start sending that it is online and working

Dont get it. Cause people like me where 4G continuosly cuts out yet I live in the "best 4G" coverage area could report a drop right? But in reality it just happens to be in my neighbor hood that 4G is having a problem.
