MetroPCS PSA: Look to see if your phone's affected

My Esteem's rooted w/stock ms910svd rom. If I update will it affect my rooting? Should I do a reset first? If not will I need to delete new t-mobile software or will I even be able to root to t-mobile after? I need solid recon Intel before I advance. Or this is the first power move to make me conform to big brother or spend big bucks again for a new phone that I did'nt want to buy yet until the cdme phones are obsolete and then get the best phone available then not get one for a short time thing. (I'm not nuts, just cheap & don't like big changes till I say so) or am I just over thinking too much.

The update tool will update it to the new software and you will lose root. The good thing is that ZVE is still rootable using the ZVC root method. It is recommended to take out you're external sd card before the update and do a factory reset after the update. There already exist 2 roms for ZVE. :)

I'm assuming that I download to a computer then connect my phone via usb. Correct?

Yes and a notificion will come on top of your notification bar asking you which type of usb setting you want. Go with internet connection and let the program detect it. If it doesn't detect it at first then unplug it and go to settings>applications>development and enable usb debugging and plug it back in

Is the feb2012 drivers download correct?

for the FOTA is it the same steps on the samsung galaxy indulge? because i'm following steps but not getting the prompt to update... also it does not let me enter the MDN just the MIN

Jm003, what version did you have before update? And did you use ma56's instructions?

I have the LG-MS840 ZVA (LG Connect), and I went to the corporate store where they told me I don't need an update.

Still, I would like to update to VV5 if possible. The baseband version is over a year old with this ZVA model. And from what I heard, is the major reason there are problems with overheating, and connectivity.

Ma56, have you updated any LG Connects using manual FOTA?

Yeah the manual fota isn't working for my attain either since there's no option in that screen to edit my mdn and or min. Any other way? I don't stay by a metro store either. I accepted the update once but re-rooted my phone again to unfreeze some apps but its not receiving it again..

Didn't use ma56 instructions... Seemed too complicated, had ZVA connect. I basically downloaded the vv5 file and did the convert thing and instructions that sammyz set forth. It was quite easy. Back then my 4g would go to 1g when I'm ten minutes into a YouTube video, but now it stays at 4g thankfully. Lol.

Ma56 instructions?

i have a zte avid4g, and sence july, it started randumly dropping calls, and 4g data totally disapears from 3 bars. i never had a 4g problm or call drop problm before july. does anyone know if or how it can be fixed? i took my phone to a metro store, but the guy only re programmed my phone through there computer and said it was fixed but i am still having the same ishoes thanks for any help :)

Interesting, I was just on Metro pcs website and all the phones listed here are now gone from the site. At least for here in Michigan.

I have the Indulge and witnessed my phone with the 4G icon for the first time 2 days ago. Granted it only lasted an hour but it gave me 4.9mbps down which I was happy with. I'm on the 4G plan but only have 3G service...I tried to do the FOTA but no luck. I saw the instructions but it didn't have a place for my MDN to be put in. I may just put the phone back to stock and take it to the local Metro store...

Ma56 instructions?

Yes Sammy. Your update requires a pc, where as ma56's doesn't. It's instructions to force an OTA update, that's posted in this thread.

I see Shatterproof at the Connect all things root thread, working on a flashable VV5 update (firmware & baseband)

And a big thanks JM003 for your reply. You answered all my questions.

HI, My name is Miriam, I been looking on the web and I always come across you guys and I finally decide to join, I have a bit of a problem and I hope I can get some help.

I got my lg esteem replace by metro pcs for a lgms840 connect 4g, the problem I been having is my 4g continually stop working, it goes from 4g to nothing every few minutes or seconds, I see that you guys mention that there is a VV5 update, I have the ZVA, and I been try everything to update but it keep telling me that i have the latest SW, I even took it to metro and they plug it to check the SW and they say its the latest ...

How can I get the VV5 on my connect? I really need the help, I dont know much about phones, no the phone is not rooted and I dont want to do it right now since the phone still under warranty. any help i will appreciate it.

I also found some info that is the 4g is not working it may be the sim card, that is also new and I already verify with metro that is activated and match the phone. Thanks again.

VV5 is only for the Connect VoLTE -- I think the model number is MS840V. For the standard Connect, ZVA is the lastest SW.

His Esteem was replaced by connect.
He was on vv5. zva sucks. Vv5 is better.vv5 works on both ms840 and ms840v. Vv5 has many benefits over zva. New feature Quickmemo, better performance and better battery life.
